As unsurprising as it is disgusting. “When he came to Megiddo he could barely walk.”
Palestine’s most popular leader, Marwan Barghouti, the man most capable of leading negotiations for a Palestinian state, was beaten unconscious by eight Israeli prison guards on September 14 as he was being transferred between prisons. theguardian.com/world/2025/oct…
from last year:
This is smart on Hamas’ part. But I don’t think Israel will ever release Barghouti, precisely because he’d be a respected, secular leader. For an Israeli establishment hellbent against 🇵🇸 statehood+credible interlocutors, Barghouti is a nightmare. apnews.com/article/israel…
So outside journalists are going to get access to Gaza, or are we just going to keep the place locked up and try to pretend the past two years never happened?
It's amazing to see the videos of all the captives getting freed, but holy hell the Palestinians coming out of Israeli prisons look and sound ... exactly as bad as we could expect given the whistleblowers and other credible reports of torture.
"And while I would love to keep splitting hairs about whether a country starving kids is better or worse if those kids are already sick, let's just table that discussion for when I see you in hell."
In his exposé on Bari Weiss’s appointment as CBS News editor-in-chief, John Oliver singled out The Free Press’s Gaza famine report as a prime example of sloppy, agenda-driven journalism. Weiss’s outlet called the famine a myth and claimed the children had preexisting illnesses.…
Watch: Not only will the governments that laid waste to Gaza (Israel chief among them, but not alone) escape paying the bill for reconstruction, their well-connected citizens will make bank off the coming contract slush.
BREAKING: Trump says Gaza reconstruction begins now
Our prisoners also have families, children, homes, and dreams. Welcome home. Still more than 10,000 captives are unlawfully held by Israel. Call for their release.
Get ready to hear a lot of triumphalism about how Israel has crushed Hamas … … combined with justification that Israel must continue to fight in Gaza and the West Bank because Hamas is still a viable fighting force.
Repulsive
Trump in the Knesset: Bibi would call me so many times, can you get me this weapon, that weapon, some of them I never heard of... But you used them well.
Nobody will lean harder into this ceasefire deal than the US/European leaders who ruthlessly fuelled two years of what will likely be ruled a genocide. They know they are complicit and they want the world to quickly move on. We can’t forget. Palestinians must have justice.
I’ll be on @CNN later this morning for live coverage of this remarkable and hopeful day in the Middle East. Starting in 7am hour. Tune in!
It is truly heartwarming to see the Israeli hostages go home. Please remember the thousands of Palestinians who are also hostages, held in Israeli administrative detention without charge and suffering terrible mistreatment, most of whom won’t be freed.
I’ve been listening to the Empire podcast on the history of Gaza, from biblical antiquity through the 20th century, and it is absolutely excellent. I thought I knew a lot of this history but it’s still a revelation.
Don't miss our new @EmpirePodUK double bill on: OTTOMAN GAZA: From Selim the Grim to Allenby & the WW1 Battles of Gaza With the great Eugene Rogan, author of The Fall of the Ottomans & Professor of Modern Middle Eastern History at the University of Oxford

These guys knew what was happening. They knew about the dead kids, starvation, countless war crimes. They knew they were arming Israel in violation of our own US laws against providing weapons to forces engaged in war crimes. They could’ve stopped it. They kept going.
(1/12) In Gaza today, the guns are largely silent. If all goes as planned, the remaining Israeli hostages will return home. Palestinians will get the relief they desperately need and deserve. Nothing can erase the pain and loss of the past two years. But there is real hope of…
I wonder, what will these fresh new voices say? The suspense is killing me.
The CBS Middle East roundtable, previewed to staff by Bari Weiss, will air live today at 2:30 p.m. on the CBS News 24/7 streaming channel. The guests are Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice, per two sources. Norah O'Donnell will moderate.
