Devestated doesn’t even come close. RIP Barry.
It’s staggering. Hear loads of noise about vote yes for strike action because no improved offers have been made and it is unfunded. London letter now says it’s funded and 11% on the table and people are still saying poke it. Get f’in REAL, it can only help our hand, surely?!!!
So the cost of living crisis only affects London and therefore @fbunational can look to do a deal for them. @AngusSproul what’s happening for us?
So, 2019/20 a 3 year deal was on the table for 17% inflationary busting pay rise for firefighters up here, accepting that we would do medical response. Rejected and subsequently ‘negotiated’ 5.5% over the same period. Brilliant work @fbunational can’t wait for what next.
What would a pay formula have given us? Matt and co have managed to negotiate all of the last 20 years of real term pay cuts we keep moaning about. Time for change.
Familiar!
Thanks Chief and we were advised to reject it by @fbunational . What exactly will you advise us to settle for @MattWrack ?
And resulted in what? IDIOTS!!!
November marked 20 years since the start of a nationwide strike by more than 50,000 firefighters over pay. It was a bitter dispute lasting more than six months... lght.ly/jhcn5ed
17% over 3 years to respond to things like cardiac arrest. FBU top brass convinced the membership to reject and we ended up with 2%. Same will happen this time. Crazy advising rejection of 5% on the table which isn’t linked to additional duties.
Let’s get real here. We keep calling for inflation increase but the reality is that isn’t going to happen. 5% and then come back after this government have gone! Why strike and lose more money when we won’t win.
We need more democracy (which should include an urgent recall of annual conference) and fewer PR exercises of this kind. 👇 We need proper debate, not sanitised press conferences.
This was billed as a "members' meeting". It was no such thing. It was a soft and tightly-controlled Q&A session with @MattWrack, with questions screened by senior officials. Members could not see or hear each other, and oral contributions were not allowed. This is not democracy.
So, I hear no pay rise next year. 10 months ago we are offered 17% to do what we want to do and @fbunational convince enough people that we should reject it. We end up with 2% and nothing now for no doubt a few years. Happy Christmas. Thanks Matt #TimeForChange
Disgraceful. When are the next round of elections for the general secretary and others? Need @PaulEmbery to stand. Talks sense.
The FBU leadership decided - twice - to organise a nationwide roadshow, fronted by the general secretary, at precisely the moment his re-election campaign began. FBU rules forbid using union funds for electoral canvassing. (Link to report in Daily Mirror): mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/w…
The Scotland question may not go away but something has......the 17% we could have had! Can't see that ever coming back given the crisis we are in. Great work @fbunational 👎🏽
The FBU leadership's approach to national bargaining is deeply flawed and inconsistent. You can't defend it in one breath while agreeing to bypass it in the next. The Scotland question will not go away. ⬇
🤔 We could have had 17% but no, let's agree 2% instead and still do everything. Incompetent leadership of a once great union.
Following the offer from the employers of a pay rise of only 2% - yet again one of the worst in the public sector - was it right for the FBU leadership to sign an extension to an agreement for firefighters to carry out Covid-related work at no cost? fbu.org.uk/news/2020/09/2…

Now 500 followers. Welcome all! Our aim is to hold the feet of the FBU leadership to the fire by close scrutiny of their decisions, and to halt the drift towards authoritarianism and erosion of democracy, accountability and transparency in our union. #ThingsMustChange
It is ridiculous and I've heard they are increasing them again?! I am seriously thinking of bailing out and joining @frsa_uk - they represent wholetime now and it is only £14 a month!! Give myself a payrise, since @MattWrack advised us to reject 17%! 🙄
If they can throw that sort of money around they can reduce union fees nearly 30 quid a month is a hefty price
Slightly different view. It's time to 🔥Build a NEW FBU 🔥Retrospectively agree the pay deal (that was) on the table in Scotland 🔥stop fighting the Trade Union movement & get back to representing Members 🔥accept changes to our role to maintain our existence! #TimeForChange
It's time to 🔴Build trade union membership 🔴Fight for safety, pay and conditions in every workplace 🔴Repeal the UK's anti-union laws 🔴Create jobs with a socialist green new deal Join @MattWrack at #LabourConnected @ 6:30PM to discuss economic justice after Covid-19
I think we all agree change is needed! Feel sold down the river right now. @FireScot_Chief has clearly stated that the money has gone. Hard to see it coming back with what's going on out there. Eternally grateful to @MattWrack 👏👏👏👏🤔
We have seen a number of Scottish firefighters follow us in recent days. Yer all welcome! Lots going on in the world of employer-union discussions north of the border. Much debate to be had. 🏴
