It's out! Read about how to combine advanced animal vision modelling and colour pattern analysis with comparative phylogenetic methods in arguably some of the most incredible critters in the ocean: doi.org/10.1111/1365-2…. Amazing work with amazing people! #colsci #micaToolbox
BUG ALERT: Naive Bayes clustering in QCPA When using Naive Bayes clustering in <v2.3, the standard deviations instead of the means are used for downstream colour pattern analysis. For details & fix, read here: empiricalimaging.com/2025/02/05/bug… #colsci
The toolbox update v2.3 is online now. It provides several bug fixes and switches to a new LibRAW (DCRAW) version, which offers support for many more recent RAW camera file formats: empiricalimaging.com/download/micat…
Excited to share our new #colsci paper on how learning egg appearance guides nesting site choice for better camouflage. I enjoyed conducting this study with @CornishJackdaws and @SensoryEcology. Image analysis via @Micatoolbox. doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.… @UniofExeter @uqu_bio

Out now in Behavioural Ecology: Highly defended nudibranchs “escape” to visually distinct background habitats - shorturl.at/uVggj with @karen_cheney @MatteoSanton @UQscience @EcoVisUQ @EcologyofVision #colsci
Out in ProcB - Chemical defences indicate bold colour patterns with reduced variability in aposematic nudibranchs - rb.gy/s1jlaq. Data & thoughts on the ecology & evolution of aposematism, feat. our fave critters! 🐌🌊 @MicaToolbox #colsci @EcoVisUQ @EcologyofVision
This dataset is bananas. High quality, calibrated UV + visible-spectrum images of >100 species of snakes let us compare across six different visual systems with @MicaToolbox. Working on it with Hayley, John David, and Alison was a genuine privilege, and I am SO GLAD IT'S OUT 🌈🐍
My first chapter is out! This was an enormously challenging project but I learned a lot and am very excited to share with you the hidden world of ultraviolet coloration in snakes. nature.com/articles/s4146…
Reminder! Come join us in Melbourne for an all-day venture into animal vision modelling and analysis in September! #colsci eventbrite.com.au/e/qcpa-worksho…

In this handy and very approachable review, @thehemi65 et al. provide a neat overview of a broad section of currently available tools and methods for the study of colour patterns in nature. Worth a read! #colsci
Excited to finally have this paper out after multiple years in the making with @bellwoodlab, @ReefFunctionHub, and @pete_cowman "Analysing biological colour patterns from digital images: An introduction to the current toolbox" onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ec…
