There's always an orthodoxy. You can go with the church's or someone else's.
I don't have stats to back this up, so take it for what it's worth, but... I'd bet the majority of Christians who lose their faith do so not because of some intellectual problem, but because they see Christian leaders they trusted behave in decidedly unchristian ways.

I am thinking a lot about how the desire to *predict* is rooted in the desire to have *control* (authority without vulnerability). And how different it is to *predict* than to *promise* or to *hope,* which always entail vulnerability.
If you want a student, especially one without inherited advantages, to be TRULY unprepared for work in the technological age, give them an education that consists only of "information" and "skills."
What people love @ talk radio on the far right and the far left is the voiced anger. But if you want anger that truly heals, try the psalms.
