Classic Movie Deep Dive

The guy on the left is the face behind @MovieDeepDive. I do virtual storytimes and library clerk duties with the Rolla Public Library. The pandemic ended the Movie Club I had been facilitating (one reason for the dry spell in posting). But a virtual film club is in the works!😎

Wow, this looks like a great book! I knew Alma had a key role in shaping Hitch's output and legacy (that's usually what writers emphasize). But it will be interesting to discover more about Joan's role. Thanks for the recommendation and review, Andy!

Not directly related to classic film, but hey, interesting for art enthusiasts nonetheless!😎

In 1947 the NC state legislature appropriated $1 million to purchase a collection of art for the people of NC. The appropriation was unheard of at the time & drew national attention. Learn more about the NCMA history here: bit.ly/2L0QMRY #GivingTuesday

Frank Sinatra was always a good singer, and his acting actually became quite good too. He definitely wasn't bad in films like Ocean's Eleven (1960), The Manchurian Candidate (1962), and Tony Rome (1967).

It's difficult to write a detailed essay such as this, covering a legend over the course of several films in a way that intertwines the on-screen and off-screen personas. Hats off to Kim and Criterion, this one was interesting!

Up now! My @Criterion essay on one of my favorite actresses - charming, complex, funny, serious & seriously smart Jean Arthur - for the @criterionchannl Jean Arthur series currently playing. Read it here: criterion.com/current/posts/…

One of my top favorites! Great lady in film and real-life!

We're remembering iconic actress and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn on what would have been her 91st birthday. What were her beauty secrets? This was her favorite poem by author Sam Levenson.

The 1960s Audrey Hepburn is greatly overshadowed by "Breakfast at Tiffany's" -- don't forget her other classics, like Charade, Paris When It Sizzles, How to Steal a Million, and Wait Until Dark! Good stuff!😎

Basically, this squirrel demonstrates how I react in the instances where friends or acquaintances approach me with the assertion that old movies are irrelevant and boring.

Rock squirrels will quickly defend their home against intruders, especially the Grand Canyon Pink Rattlesnake. As you can see, moving the tail back and forth, pushing dirt into the snake's face sends a clear message: "Don't mess with me!" (Video/Erin Gelfat) #NationalSerpentDay

I agree, WOW! This is something I will be exploring further!

Ingrid Bergman is one of my favorites! Casablanca (1942), Notorious (1946), For Whom the Bells Toll (1943), and Gaslight (1944) definitely "hit the spot" for me!

A comic genius, highly underrated, although he was often his own worst enemy as it relates to financial matters, which negatively impacted his career and legacy.

Derek (the guy behind Classic Movie Deep Dive) temporarily went on a "Twitter retirement" due to the kind of time constraints that happen when you mix work and college together. However, with school out and the quarantine in, I thought now would be a good time to join back in!

Ocean's 11 -- great light-hearted caper film with some fun crooner tunes.

Fun fashion facts about Ingrid Bergman's stylish outfits for Casablanca and Notorious.

Humphrey Bogart passed away on this day in 1957. While he was an incredible actor (@AmericanFilm ranked him as the greatest male screen legend of all time), we believe Bogie became a cultural icon because he was more than an actor. Here are other key facts about Humphrey Bogart:

I am saddened to announce my mother Carol Serling has passed away. She lived to be 91. She married my dad, Rod Serling, in 1948. A marriage that lasted until his death in 1975. She was with him throughout his early and extended career and will be missed.

That's what I call dedication to the craft! Ray Harryhausen's legacy is one that's well-earned!

Working alone, Ray Harryhausen spent 4½ months animating Jason and the Argonauts' blistering battle with the Children of the Hydra's Teeth. That's what I call time well spent! 💀⚔💀
