Year 5 @HazelSchool took a walk around the Thomas Cook trail as part of their History learning. They learned how much of an impact he had on Victorian Leicester with his temperance houses and package rail travel. History on our doorstep. @MsFairfieldHCPS
In the new ‘Mastering number’ programme that year 5 started last week, they quickly got to grips with the concept of unitised counters and the vocabulary that they will use throughout this year. @MsFairfieldHCPS @HazelSchool
Year 5 @HazelSchool have started to make their CAM mechanism toys. This involved lots of problem solving and ensuring the mechanism was the correct size for its purpose. Really good headway was made and they are looking forward to the final lesson. @MrsTonksHCPS1
In DT this week, year 5 @HazelSchool worked on making the toy part of their CAM designs. This will be the moving part when combined with the mechanism. Next week they will work on the mechanism and construction. @MrsTonksHCPS1

Year 5/6 attended a Honesty develop event with @InspireTogeth3r @SJNCCSchool The children showed great values throughout the dodgeball games and earned the spirit of the games award🔥 @HazelSchool
🏉 Today I was @allianz_stad in London to watch England @RedRosesRugby win the Women’s Rugby World Cup against Canada. An amazing atmosphere and an incredible team, inspiring girls everywhere to get into rugby 💪 🏉. @MrLinternHPS @MissMcCaigHCPS
Part of year 5s #dayoflanguages experience was to make and cook Welsh cakes. They followed a recipe and showed excellent team work in following the method. They definitely enjoyed eating the too! 🏴 @MmeChettleCully more photos to follow!
Year 5 were thoroughly engaged in their Welsh language taster session today! We started by learning about Wales and its geography and then learnt numbers 1-20 in the Welsh language. We also learnt how to say “What do you like?” and how to answer. 🏴🏴 @MmeChettleCully
#dayoflanguages @HazelSchool and year 5 discussed which languages were spoken in class 12. Amazingly, every single child in the class speaks at least 2 languages! So diverse yet so together. 😀
Which materials are good thermal conductors?….and which are good thermal insulators? Year 5 @HazelSchool investigated this in science by identifying whether butter melted quickest on metal, plastic or wooden spoon when held over heated water. @MrsMaxwellHCPS
Whist waiting for my lunch with year 5 @HazelSchool, we took some time to read the weekly newsletter. We found out that 2 of Independent Iguanas class were placed 1 and 2 on the TTRS leaderboard. Great news that they are working hard on consolidating their multiplication fluency
In PHSE, class 12 @HazelSchool discussed the importance of having and following rules. There were great class discussions about what might happen if we had no laws and rules and how rules help us to be successful in school. @MissAlhaddad
