Colleagues were extremely dubious about me taking leave to attend a free online conference today, but I have to say I’m thoroughly enjoying #InclusiveEduFest and learning so much that I can feedback on!

Thoroughly enjoying the #DiverseEd virtual conference today! Providing so many ideas for my new role as diversity coordinator, but also our well-being school improvement group - @nickybright! Huge thanks as always to @Ethical_Leader & @benniekara!

Unbelievably proud of my students from LGBTQIA+ club today. We held a bake sale to raise funds for a local charity and the kids bakes loads of goodies to be sold, and came to help run the sale itself.. and we raised almost £150!

I’m so proud of the kids in our LGBTQIA+ club and how mature they are about our issues, but I do have a favour to ask.. have any of your students expressed disdain towards including Ally’s in your club? If so, how have you dealt with it? #pride #LGBTQIA #edutwitter #DiverseEd

Just the one page though - no need to leave 5 blank pages between lessons!

Not asking if they can turn their page and start on a new page. Tell them they're allowed to turn the page and start writing on the next page. In fact we encourage it.

I’m just saying, I’m 34 years old and a pen has never exploded on me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Today is the first day I’ve even come close to swearing at a student. Two classes this afternoon just would not respond to usual behaviour strategies. I think a solid “shut the f**k up” would have done the trick, but I held it together (somehow).

We had our first EVER LGBTQIA+ lunch club today and had a fantastic turn out of over 50 students! I was so proud and full of love for these kids that I started crying! We had to spill over into a second classroom as mine isn’t big enough for 50! Absolutely incredible! #LGBTQIA+

Teaching at high school I didn’t think students would respond to stickers so when a friend bought me personalised stickers I thought they would be a waste. To my surprise they absolutely love them & I’ve had to order myself more (different designs) so they can “collect them all”.

Barely survived my first open evening. And we don’t have the benefit of a non-pupil day today. It’s going to be a long one!

Successful first day back, followed by a “ping” from the NHS app 🙄 thankfully I’m double vaccinated so don’t have to isolate but have just been for a PCR test. Now to wait.. 😬

Covid in schools 😷🦠 I currently know more people testing positive with covid than I ever have during the pandemic so far. The restrictions lift on Monday… Make it make sense. 😵‍💫🤷🏽‍♀️

Totally predictable, especially with the sheer number of cases in schools at the minute. Still think the sensible would have been a coordinated end of term at the latest this Friday to take away school transmission before the big 19th “unlock”.

Increasingly hearing parents say they are going to pull kids out of school in last weeks of term to avoid them being pinged by Test and Trace and missing holidays that have been booked. What is already a chaotic situation may become even more chaotic.

Sorry, but this isn’t on. Real adults - employers, events planners, schools! - have already organised things for these dates. Work rotas drawn up. Meetings planned. Sports Days endlessly reorganised. WE ARE NOT ALL FLY-BY-NIGHT MANCHILDS
