Let’s talk about a leader who goes above and beyond for his staff. Staff does a weekly wellness check in, I put three outlandish “wishful thinking” items. Leader has delivered 2/3 this week. The last is year-round school, so he gets a pass on that 😉 thank you, @MikeHerdliska
Thinking about and sending a ton of love to my friends and colleagues in New York today. I will never forget your stories you’ve shared or the people you’ve shared with me in memory. #Remembering911
My family has known (and loved) the Kacena family for 30 years. Though I am so proud of them, I am not surprised in the slightest. ❤️ If you’re ever in the Vinton area, check out their Tree/pizza/pumpkin farm facebook.com/KacenaFarms/
Missed the first wave of hungry linemen and Van Horne residents, but Kacena Farms still have their food truck set up in front of the community center. All food is free.
Continuing my series of “Today, Mary taught me…” that I started last August while I was in NYC. We are asking students to read digitally- on Kindles, tablets, computers- with NO guidance on HOW to do that. WE HAVE TO TEACH THEM how to read digitally! #TCRWP
This AM, @brooke_geller has me thinking about ALL the areas we could be giving sts feedback on. We focus so much on product - the essay, paper, notebook work, test - and giving feedback on that, when just as much (if not more) attention should be put on the PROCESS. #tcrwp
Finishing up the day with @clemenkat who is one of my favorites at TC. So many helpful ideas and a lot to think about when planning effective small groups! Here are some considerations to make! #TCRWP
Went all the way to the QC to get internet access, but we are BACK in business for TCRWP Reading Institute day 2! Thoughts and prayers to everyone who is cleaning up or dealing with the repercussions of the devastating storm yesterday ❤️ Help your neighbor. STRONGER TOGETHER!
“You bring reading close because you want it to touch your heart; to change your life… let’s give that to the students this fall.” Beautiful, poignant opening by Lucy Calkins to kick off the reading institute. ❤️ Reminds us that teaching is about emotional connection. #TCRWP
The #TCRWP August Reading Institute looks a little different this year but I still have the same tingles of excitement as if I was sitting in Horace Mann in New York City. Lucy is getting us ready for an intense, emotional week of learning— buckle up, Twitter world.
Starting a new book today! Reading with Deep Study of Character in mind. Practicing what I preach to our 6th graders- jotting character traits as I get introduced to characters that seem important. @TCRWP @MikeHerdliska @SolonCSD #mybffstickynotes
No teacher or librarian should have to spend hundreds, even thousands, of their own dollars just to ensure that their students have access to high-interest, high-quality books that are representative of their lives and the lives of those who make up their communities and world.
Spent my morning volunteering at the food pantry. Just doing a small part to make sure our families are fed during the school closures ❤️ I encourage you all to find a way to spread hope and love when so many people need it right now.
6th graders- we created a message board to keep in touch with each other over the next few weeks. Check it out on Padlet- padlet.com/abecicka/amzdu… @amy_becicka @MikeHerdliska @SolonCSD
If you are going to the middle school Tuesday and didn’t bring any books home- I pulled some books for you to check out so you’ll have something to read! Located right outside my classroom. Just make sure to sign it out 😊
Love this idea for reading nonfiction- When determining central ideas of a nonfiction text, consider POV - sorting between the author and their message vs your own interpretation of the text. @MaryEhrenworth #tcrwp
“If you don’t have engagement, none of this works.” - @MaryEhrenworth I’m a huge believer that student success all comes back to how much you prioirtize passion, energy and relationship-building in your classroom!
“Social justice isn’t just “as we march on” kind of thing. It’s in the daily, little ways we take care of each other.” - @MaryEhrenworth Yes! #TCRWP
You guys know that @MaryEhrenworth is my queen 👑 and I’m so excited to be in Milwaukee learning with her today! Units of Study in Reading: A Crash Course in Methods and Curriculum, 3-8 #TCRWP
YES! A sighting! @MaryEhrenworth is in the house! Learning ahead! @JodieEidahl @MoserEmily2 @MsLindner6 #tcrwp tomorrow!
