I submitted my redundancy appeal letter yesterday. Head went during meeting with UCU rep so the afternoon was a huge struggle and I scraped the letter in for 5pm. 15 evidenced pages, single spaced, Arial 10. I really could write a book...

To meet national benchmarks for the discipline, a degree in English MUST include coverage of literature pre-1800 AND post-1800. How will the overworked staff who are left cope with having to learn enough context to teach early modern literature? The prep time will be horrendous.

A puzzle for the weekend! Before the cuts, the @UOP_EngLit team was made up of staff with the following specialisms: 3 x early modern (pre-1700) 1 x 18 Century 4 x 19C 5 X 20/21C How many early modernists have been made redundant by @portsmouthuni? #GalbraithHasFailed
Bad luck to the 11% who thought all those made redundant are men and to the 32% who thought that 1 man had been made redundant! The answer is that *all* the #EnglishLiterature staff made redundant by @portsmouthuni are women. #GalbraithHasFailed #gender #discrimination

Best advice I have is keep strong as a team - even if there have been past differences. That solidarity between us helped us get thru the darkest bits (and there’s humour between colleagues in that darkness that no-one else would understand). “We didn’t know how strong we were” x

University of Portsmouth's vice-chancellor handed £9,000 pay rise
THE University of Portsmouth’s vice-chancellor has been handed a £9,000 pay rise.
Yesterday @portsmouthuni sent redundancy letters to valued colleagues. @UOP_EngLit staff have done all they can to keep more colleagues by making some posts fractional but 6FTE remains just 6FTE. We remain clear that this level of staffing is too low. #GalbraithHasFailed
Solidarity to all colleagues from @SaveUoPLit that received redundancy letters yesterday. It’s not just the fact that the redundancies are unnecessary, it is also the shambolic mismanagement by @portsmouthuni that has no regard for the dignity of work of these valued colleagues.
