There is no reason for math to be painful! Time drills can cause stress. Have students race themselves and record improvement over time.
Plan lessons 4 student success. Use friendly numbers with new material. Use small sets of targeted facts to build fluency incrementally.
This is the beginning of the school year. Shore up those foundation skills BEFORE launching in to grade level work. You will thank yourself.

In math as in all things, practice makes permanent.
Try focusing on a few selected number facts for a while. Use them across place values. If 2+3=5, then 20+30=50. Use them for mental math.
School begins. Review core concepts before starting grade level content. Your students will thank you...and so will you.
There is NO TIME TABLE for times tables. Pick a pattern of a few related facts, practice and apply them until they are automatic.
