Our Net Zero Market Reform report published today shows we need a new approach to electricity markets to reach net-zero Moving from a national electricity price to more local pricing will reduce consumer costs and unlock further investment in renewables

An important area for the East of England too. We will be dialling in!

Looking forward to the @HydrogenAPPG meeting next week - discussing the role of hydrogen in decarbonising transport, a key question for the industry. 🚌🚅🚋🚗

The UK Hydrogen Strategy. Tomorrow we will be pulling out all the key bits including targets, policy commitments and funding opportunities. We will also be giving our view on the strategy's strengths and weaknesses, in addition to our view on the need for regional H2 clusters.

Less than 24 hours until our event on the UK Hydrogen Strategy. Two sessions: Session 1 (11:00-11:45) - The UK Hydrogen Strategy - Supporting policy and funding opportunities Session 2 (11:45-13:00) - A regional New Anglia H2 cluster Sign up here: eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-hydrogen…

8) But I’m sceptical of claims that blue hydrogen can be done fast and at scale. We heard similar suggestions 20 years ago in the context of ‘clean’ coal. gizmodo.com/the-only-carbo…

Hydrogen build-up across supply and demand is place-based and will look very different depending on a region’s characteristics. The below report gives an overview of this, in addition to a good summary of the UK Hydrogen Strategy.

Our thoughts on last Tuesday's UK Hydrogen Strategy are now available. This also includes the argument that we're building for more focused action around a regional cluster specific to the New Anglia region. 12-page report, here: hydrogeneast.uk/the-new-anglia…

The UK hydrogen strategy outlined the government's support for a 'twin track' approach which supports both 'green' (from renewable electricity) and 'blue' (from fossil gas) hydrogen. This has caused a bit of stir, so what are the issues? (thread).

This is an excellent resource!

🌽🐄 If someone shares a chart of the carbon footprint of foods people ask for it: – by protein – by calorie – land, water or other. We have these but spread across different charts. Tried to fix this. You can now switch between them all in one place👇 ourworldindata.org/environmental-…

We looked at three illustrative pathways - a piecemeal model, a collaboration model and a facilitated model. The latter would be an actively planned, whole system pathway, with an optimised energy hub integrating all relevant sectors in Norfolk and Suffolk.

We got excited with the @IEA Net Zero 2050 scenario, but we also need some reality... Stated Policies: Currently leads to flat emissions. Announced Pledges: Bridge a part of the 'gap', but are not backed up with policies. We are talking net-zero 2050, but not acting it out!

This will be an excellent resource once up and running. Check out the @NetZeroEast website shortly for a presentation on the online mapping portal. We’re planning launch in Autumn 2021 - so please do register interest now or raise any questions at [email protected].

We will now turn our focus to developing support for acceleration of decarbonisation across the East of England, including: 1) #NetZeroMap - an online interactive mapping platform covering infrastructure, generation, natural capital, socio-economics and more.
