Curious that JS Bach and Antonio Vivaldi both d otd (1750, 1741). So different - one so often showing us a higher world, the other as often celebrating this one. But both would have agreed: "The aim of all music should be the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul." (Bach)
On this date in 1750, Johann Sebastian Bach died in Leipzig at the age of 65. The nature of art and how we receive it make cut-and-dry proclamations dubious. But in my view, he was the greatest composer the world has known.
