SHOUT's S.A.F.E Campaign makes demands of government agencies as well as supportive housing providers. We demand fundamental reforms to supportive housing in NYC, and accountability to applicants and tenants.
Supportive housing tenants have a lot to say about bad living conditions, getting nickel and dimed, and bad landlords who get tons of government money. This is a great move by @NYCMayor. We look forward to the hearings!
Bad landlords giving you a hard time? Dubious fees leaving your wallet light? Ceilings leaking and your landlord's phone is off the hook? We'll be hosting Rental Ripoff hearings in our first 100 days in office, details to come at: nyc.gov/rentalripoff See you there!
(1/2) A new year brings in new leadership —and new responsibility. NYC residents continue to face delays, unsafe conditions and barriers in housing court. With a new mayor in town, now is the time to demand accountability, transparency, and real solutions for tenants.
@ZohranKMamdani will have the power come 1/1/26 to ease access to supportive housing. It is NOT just building more supportive housing - it is intervening in the absurd, discriminatory, barrier-ridden process of getting people accepted to that housing that must be dealt with.
might the zohran admin clean up and discipline the city marshals ?
The longer I work in psychiatry, the more & more I'm reminded that poverty is one of the most harmful factors (if not the most harmful factor) affecting peoples' mental health.
Thank you @NYCCouncil for its work supporting our communities. Congrats on legislation fighting for street vendors, day laborers, deliveristas, tenants, and many others. @ChhayaCDC @VendorPower @NYC_SHOUT
At our final Stated Meeting of the year, the Council advanced major housing and small business legislation to grow affordable homeownership, deepen affordability, increase the number of family-sized units, expand street vendor licensing and much more!
Same goes for non-profit, at least in the world of supportive housing. When salaries starting hit hundreds of thousands of dollars in exec positions and with the bonus social and political capital that typically accompanies them, "mission" often takes a back seat.
.@ZohranKMamdani must be on his toes & not hire people who work for companies depending on City regulations to profit! They may have been idealistic at one time when they worked in government but that usually changes after leaving government to work 4 companies who depend on…
Over a 2.5 year stay across 3 shelters, a transgender woman says the city repeatedly put her in rooms with men who assaulted her, according to a new civil rights suit. Advocates say it's the tip of the iceberg in NYC's mostly gender-segregated shelter system. For @citylimitsnews
Can't end homelessness on a foundation of broken windows. There are very clear changes @ZohranKMamdani can make to "connect" people to housing which past admins have refused to take on - bureaucratic barriers first and foremost. Ending sweeps is a critical first step.
With all due respect and with three weeks to go, it’s increasingly clear that @ZohranKMamdani does not possess a concrete plan to address homeless encampments. Aspirational language at a press conference is not a substitute for immediate, actionable solutions. Ending sweeps alone…
(2/2) Yet, since 2022 more than 110,000 households have been forced to face eviction alone in court. Tenants demand accountability NOW! OCJ must fight to #UpholdRTC! #ProtectTenants

"We have 5,000 vacant supportive housing units with specialized social services for the homeless, and somewhere near that number of homeless people living on the street. We also have housing subsidy laws the Adams administration has refused to implement.." nydailynews.com/2025/12/08/hom…
The Trump admin is trying to force 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the streets. We’re fighting back in court. Tune into the hearing today at 3:30 PM EST: youtube.com/@USCourtsRID

Ending sweeps is critical. But @ZohranKMamdani must also remove the pervasive barriers to accessing supportive housing. People are literally dying waiting for supportive housing while there are thousands of vacant SH units. thecity.nyc/2025/01/06/hom…
Mamdani Vows to Sweep Out Crackdowns on Homeless Camps The city’s own data shows since 2024, there have been zero permanent housing referrals from the sweeps thecity.nyc/2025/12/04/mam… via @THECITYNY

The planned cuts and rollbacks to Continuum of Care-funded housing are disastrous and must be stopped. We hope @TishJames and other AG's prevail in this!
New York Attorney General @TishJames and AGs from over a dozen other states are suing to stop @HUDgov and the Trump Administration from diverting $ billions from permanent housing for formerly homeless Instead, HUD is prioritizing temporary programs with treatment requirements
