Join me as I deliver a farewell address to New Yorkers. Watch:
Some people just can't get the facts straight. Yes, I was downstate monitoring storm response for a few days, but Captain and I are a man and his dog. He is part of our family and that’s the way it will always be.
Thank you for the honor of serving you. Thank you for empowering me to fight for you. And never forget: Always stay New York tough, smart, united, disciplined and loving. It’s the essence of what makes New Yorkers so special. Ever Upward.
At midnight, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will become governor. She is smart and competent, and I believe she will step up to the challenge. I wish her every success.
We didn't get everything done that we wanted to and we didn't always get it quite right. But I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that every day, I worked my hardest. I gave it my all, and I tried my best, to deliver for you.
It has been a deep honor to serve as the 56th Governor of the State of New York. From Marriage Equality to the $15 Minimum Wage, from Paid Family Leave to the NY SAFE Act, from investing in infrastructure to fighting COVID—together we have done what no one thought could be done.
I am granting clemency to 6 people. These individuals have shown remorse, rehabilitation and commitment to their communities. I thank all the volunteer attorneys representing clemency applicants for their dedication and service to justice.
Now that the FDA has fully approved the Pfizer vaccine, I call on all NYS employers to make the COVID vaccine mandatory for their employees. The time for pleading & cajoling is over. The vaccines are safe, effective & free. Period. Let's get it done, NY.
Vaccination Update: 78.6% of adult New Yorkers have received at least one vaccine dose and 70.7% have completed their vaccine series (Per CDC). -29,636 doses were administered over past 24 hours -23,262,629 doses administered to date
Today's update on the numbers: Total COVID hospitalizations are at 2,017. Of the 101,685 tests reported yesterday, 3,816 were positive (3.75% of total). Sadly, there were 28 fatalities.
Many unvaccinated New Yorkers have been waiting for full FDA approval of a COVID vaccine. Great news—that just happened. For anyone who was waiting, today is a great day to get the FDA-approved Pfizer vaccine! #VaccinateNY
While NY missed a direct hit from #Henri, its lingering effects are still being felt. I've directed State agencies to assist local governments severely impacted over the weekend. We expect more rain & flooding threats today in some regions. Watch the weather & stay safe.
The flood threat has not yet ended! With #Henri spinning just to our north, allow for occasional showers today, with the chance for a few strong thunderstorms this afternoon. Additional rainfall of generally 1-2 inches can be expected, with locally higher amounts possible.
[UPDATE 507 PM] Moderate to briefly heavy rainfall continues across much of the region this afternoon. Recent rainfall observations range from 0.2 - 0.6" in the past hour.
We are seeing flooding in spots as Henri continues in NY. Please stay safe and avoid flooded roadways. We are here if you need us. 📷: Dune Road, Hampton Bays
