Will @NYCMayor @NYCCouncil @NYCHealthSystem @MountSinaiNYC and @PAGNewYork give doctors a fair and competitive contract or not? Will they get our patients the safe staffing they deserve? Or will they escalate the current staffing crisis into a catastrophic mass exodus?

An explosion of physician unionization (with more on the way, and aiming to strike if demands aren't met).

New in @JAMA_current we find that physician unionization has increased markedly since 2023, & we briefly explore why. And in @HMPI_Journal we discuss how the interaction of labor law & corporate practice of medicine laws may shape these growing organizing efforts. 1/x

10) Does @NYCMayor believe New Yorkers deserve: - adequately staffed health systems? - getting care without unsafe wait times? - having enough time with their doctors? - having doctors who aren't burnt out?

Shameful that PAGNY, the subcontractor beholden to @NYCHealthSystem has chosen dishonesty and union busting over workers and patients. Here’s PAGNY’s letter and then @DoctorsCouncil honest, morally clear response to members.

Here's the vibe inside #NYC hospitals: "For Dr. Ballinger, a primary-care physician at Queens Hospital, NYC H+H’s move to cut patients’ 1st visit from the standard 40 min to 20 min was a 'watershed moment' of 'moral outrage...'" @DoctorsCouncil @FDNYchic work-bites.com/view-all/docst…

HCW in public hospitals are struggling. Many are working overtime to ensure patients are receiving adequate care. We need more physicians!

BREAKING: Nearly 1,000 @NYCHealthSystem doctors are preparing to go on strike Jan. 13. It would be the largest work stoppage by attending physicians in NYC history, per @DoctorsCouncil. Four hospitals would be affected: Jacobi, North Central Bronx, Queens and South Brooklyn.
