Congratulations to our associate director of outreach, Monica Delgado, on her grant award from the Office of Outreach and Engagement! Monica received a Professional Development grant and was among 5 recipients in this category after a competitive selection process.

Congratulations to our staff members Dr. James (Jim) Talamo and Dr. Athena Yiamouyiannis on their excellence awards this year! Dr. Talamo received a distinguished teaching award, and Dr. Yiamouyiannis is the sole recipient of OSU's outstanding advising leadership award.

Congratulations to our graduate student Aziz Burak Gülen who received a 2022 Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA) from the university's Graduate School! GATA is the highest recognition by the university for exceptional teaching provided by Graduate Teaching Associates.

Congrats to assistant professor Jingyin Huang who has been awarded a 2022 Sloan Research Fellowship! A Sloan is one of the most prestigious annual awards to early-career researchers in the US and Canada. Jingyin will receive a two-year $75,000 fellowship to support his research.

OSU math at Marion just concluded the latest Marion Math Challenge. This decade-old competition for local high school students is run jointly with Marion Technical College. Over a hundred students participated, with scholarships awarded to top scorers from each grade.

Congrats to our PhD student Bhawesh Mishra on his Presidential Fellowship award! This is the top academic recognition by the Ohio State Graduate School! Bhawesh grew up in Nepal. He completed his bachelor's degree at Berea College before joining our doctoral program in 2017.

Our outreach group, Buckeye Aha! Math Moments (BAMM), is piloting a recreational math course, Math 2194, in spring 2022. Participants will use games, puzzles, art, magic, and culture to motivate deep and surprising ideas in mathematics at K-12 classrooms. And there are no exams!

Congratulations to our Postdoc scholar Ranthony Edmonds who has been awarded a three-year 300,000 MPS-Ascend Fellowship from the NSF! Dr. Edmonds will investigate applications of topological data analysis to electoral redistricting and quantitative detection of gerrymandering.

Congratulations to Matthew Stenzel who has been awarded the Robert A. Barnes Award for Exemplary Teaching 2021! This award is presented annually to one tenured faculty member at Ohio State Newark with a record of excellent teaching at the Newark campus for at least ten years.

Congratulations to Benjamin Call who has been awarded a 2021 Presidential Fellowship by the OSU Graduate School! This award recognizes outstanding scholarship by OSU doctoral students and provides a full year of support during the completion of the dissertation.

Congratulations to Elizabeth Campolongo who received a 2021 Graduate Associate Performance Award (GAPA) from the university's Graduate School! A virtual ceremony was held today and the recipients of this new award were honored by President Johnson and Provost McPheron.
