Drain Amazon dry of every book on living your best life, read them till you’re blue in the face, highlight them brightest yellow & not one can compete with 8 simple words from the mouth of Christ. “It is better to give than to receive.” That is the secret to a fulfilling life.

Jesus didn’t ask to be let in to people’s hearts; he told them to follow him—dedicating his life to the most vulnerable in society. Following Jesus wasn’t a call to a private piety disconnected from society. Following Jesus was relational, social, and it involved justice.

When the Church tries to embody the rule of God in the forms of earthly power it may achieve that power, but it is no longer a sign of the kingdom.

This past Sunday at church, with tears in his eyes, a friend who provides legal services to immigrants shared that a 7 year old with a serious illness at a hospital in Atlanta had been given deportation papers. In a very trying season this has been utterly heartbreaking.

Undocumented immigrants with serious medical conditions who were receiving treatment in the U.S. now have to about a month to leave the country. bit.ly/2ZsVsoo

Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the burden: it is easier to say "My tooth is aching" than to say "My heart is broken."

A gospel of reconciliation can only be communicated by a reconciled community.

Relentless overemphasis on biblical manhood and womanhood - the constant pounding - will inevitably, inadvertently cause us to attend more carefully to carrying our genders than carrying our crosses. Whether you’re male OR female, deny yourself, pick up your cross & follow Jesus.

The church is not meant to call men and women out of the world into a safe religious enclave but to call them out in order to send them back as agents of God's kingship.

It is not the superiority of the Church’s preaching which finally disarmed the Roman imperial power, but the faithfulness of its martyrs.

There are simply no gospel grounds for defending White supremacy. None. This isn’t theological rocket science. The Savior of the world gave Himself on the cross for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God & Father, wearing a brown body.

We must live in the kingdom of God in such a way that it provokes questions for which the Gospel is the answer.

“If conversion to Christianity makes no improvement in a man's outward actions – if he continues to be just a snobbish or spiteful or envious as he was before – then I think we must suspect that his 'conversion' was largely imaginary.” #CSLewis
