PL Referee Watch

On a mission to rate PL referees in the most unbiased/objective way possible. Are they all as bad as they say? All ratings are personal opinions. Arsenal fan.
For years I'd sighed and groaned watching the PGMOL consistently assign Mike Dean to Arsenal matches, conscious of his perceived reputation as a Wenger-hating prima donna, yet in his final years he seemed markedly less error prone and almost a favourable selection for us... 👇🧵
#GW8 VAR standings Jared Gillett grabs 2nd place and Chris Kavanagh climbs up 2 positions. More solid displays from backmarkers Stewart Attwell and Graham Scott. Michael Oliver is the story of the weekend and drops from 4th to 15th. #premierleague #refwatch #pgmol #var #livche
#GW9 PREVIEW 🔴 Anthony Taylor (10th) is assisted by Michael Salisbury (7th) on VAR for the big #ARSLIV match on Sunday ⚫ High-flyers Peter Bankes (1st) and Rob Jones (7th) are rotated out 🔴 Jared Gillett will assist Matt Donohue for his Premier League VAR debut in #AVLBOU
#GW8 On-field referee standings A slight hiccup for Anthony Taylor who falls down to 10th. Some redemeption for Andy Madley who jumps up to 12th. Disaster for John Brooks who drops 10 places into last.
#GW8 has gone and past. Here's a look at the first batch of matches, most notable for Anthony Taylor's 5/10 in #SOULEI (with Alex Chilowicz on VAR duty) for not giving Southampton a stonewall penalty for Ayew's blatant tug on Onuachu. (pt. 1) #premierleague #refwatch #pgmol
Rare positive displays for Chris Kavanagh and Stewart Attwell close off a good weekend for VAR in #GW7. Still no sign of bottom-of-the-pack Andy Madley after consecutive on-field appointments. #premierleague #refwatch #pgmol
#GW7 Craig Pawson keeps up his impressive form alongside Peter Bankes and Darren Bond. Michael Oliver is relegated to exclusive VAR duty for the first time this season allowing colleague Anthony Taylor to overtake him in the standings, whereas Sam Barrott is dropped entirely.
#GW7 (pt. 1) After a disastrous GW6, October kicks off on a positive note with only the single non-passing grade. Simon Hooper slightly lost track of proceedings in #CRYLIV after not awarding a spot kick to Marc Guehi, resulting in a flurry of bookings and two potential reds.
The highlight of the week for VAR was surely Peter Bankes and Simon Long not reversing Bruno Fernandes' erroneous sending off in #MUNTOT for serious foul play. Shout out to Paul Tierney for officiating two good matches in the same weekend (#ARSLEI & #BOUSOU)
Simon Hooper (#BREWHU) adds to his impressive campaign so far, with heavy-hitters Oliver (#BOUSOU) and Taylor (#WOLLIV) following suit. Another weekend to forget for Chris Kavanagh (#MUNTOT) and Sam Barrott (#ARSLEI). A poor debut for Andy Madley (penalty missed in #EVECRY)
#GW6 was the worst week yet for referees. An average score of 5.25 from the on-field match officials and 4 incidents where VAR didn't send the ref to the screen when I think they should've. A game week to forget for the PGMOL. (pt. 1) #premierleague #refwatch #pgmol
#GW5 Sunday matches saw two highly controversial, high-octane encounters. Rob Jones sent off Gibbs-White in #BHANFO after initially letting play go (intervention from fourth official Anthony Taylor), whereas Michael Oliver sent off Trossard in #MCIARS for delaying the restart.
#GW5 Saturday action saw 5 passing grades, exceptions being Sam Barrott in #WHUCHE (Summerville penalty missed), Sam Allison in #SOUIPS (overall performance) & David Coote in #CRYMUN (Martinez sending off not given) #premierleague #refwatch
#GW4 We have the first VAR clanger of the season in the form of a dubious offside call from VAR Andy Madley and Assistant VAR Mark Scholes in #CRYLEI. The on-field decision had chalked off Mateta's goal, but a review reinstated Palace's route back into the match at Selhurst Park.
#GW4 A game week of consolidation for Darren Bond and Craig Pawson, whereas Michael Oliver edges ahead of fellow heavyweight Anthony Taylor. Stewart Attwell drops below the coveted 6/10 mark.
