William West died of wounds #OnThisDay 1916. West was a scrum-half for @SaintsRugby & @EastMidsRugby. He emigrated to Canada but returned with Canadian Infantry. He was wounded in the chest and both legs on the final day of the Battle of the Somme, dying five days later.

Born in Whitaker, Mississippi, his parents brought him to Canada. He said he was 17 upon enlistment, but records show he was just 15. He died a year later during the Battle of the Somme. He has no known grave. Remember Private James Munroe Franklin.
