Some new debris objects from today's breakup (orange orbit) visualized relative to ISS (blue orbit). Objects in white denote largest pieces of Cosmos 1408 tracked by LeoLabs. (Dots not to scale.) Debris ranges in altitude from 440 to 520km.
Timelapse helps show the reason visiting vehicles have to conduct a lot of fine-tuning via RCS during rendezvous. It looks very smooth during real-time, but both vehicles are traveling 17,500 mph and you're parking at a port the size of your hatch.
I mentioned wanting a #timelapse of our @spaceX Dragon docking to the @Space_Station and the internet delivers, always! Thanks @Darkellysio 👏🙏
Failure to understand how dependent space is on government spending, often combined with a hope that some huge new commercial market is poised to emerge, explains a lot of space investment bubbles
So the 'real' space economy, i.e. the economic activity driven by the development and production of space infrastructure, is worth 153 B$, with 85% of it being driven by government programmes. 25/End

In a clear statement today, the White House says it supports the Artemis Moon Program. While there were no details, and changes will certainly come in timing and approach, we're going back to the Moon. Hopefully to stay. arstechnica.com/science/2021/0…

space debris problem creeping up on us...hope policy makers are listening. I see business plans: ‘let’s iterate in space’/‘go fast to save money’. Disagree. Test thoroughly, add safety, sats last longer, business will be stronger and + 4 environment cnn.com/2019/03/13/tec…
