Hi everyone. Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year! Every day this month I’ll posting about certain books I’ve particularly enjoyed reading. They might be fiction, history, sci-fi, classics & much more. So here goes… #bookoftheday #bookreview
Hello friends. Last year I went on an archaeological adventure in the mist shrouded jungles of Chiapas, Mexico. It is an absolutely fascinating region filled with untold wonders and mysteries. I just released a video on the place! You can watch it here- youtu.be/YvhWNGpXcd4?si…
Me when asked how often I think about the Roman Empire…
Absolute monstrosity is forming. It will be well over 25,000 words. Most ambitious work to date. Ridiculous amount of locations involved. It’s Old North 2.0. But Wales.
1000 words before 6am. I feel great… this is a normal thing to do…
A lovely writing session in the heart of Tallinn’s old town early this morning. Beautiful city and beautiful country.
There’s nothing quite like walking through an ancient wood. I’ve always had a particular love for this one near where I grew up. Though records are sparse at least part of the land here seems to have remained forested since the end of the last Ice Age. Awesome place.

One of the craziest survival tales in all of history. Cabeza De Vaca’s epic journey home across what is now the USA is absolutely fascinating from an anthropological perspective let alone the sheer will to survive demonstrated by him and the handful of others shipwrecked with him
So much more than just a book about cooking. There’s a reason why chef Anthony Bourdain’s debut non-fiction work propelled him forwards on a decades long storytelling adventure around the world. It’s just really damn good. If you enjoyed his documentaries you’ll love this too.
Interesting book on what it means to be human and how our identities are often based as much on what we are as on what we aren’t. Worth a read for those interested on how to avoid media outrage cycles in this bizarre unprecedented world we now inhabit.
Undoubtedly one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Even if you haven’t heard of Joseph Campbell, you’ll have heard of those he inspired. George Lucas and Dan Harman to name a few. It remains very difficult to refute the power of the basic ideas of this work.
Though I mostly write about history and archaeology it’s always important to read widely outside your own genre. Mycology has become a big fascination for me over the last few years. This book has it all. Absolutely fascinating and bizarre stuff about alien life on Earth.
