Discharge grants of around £75 are provided to all sentenced prisoners on release. Prisoners released from remand receive no financial support and will typically wait at least 4 weeks for benefit payments to be reinstated. #DemandLessRemand @KeithBrownSNP @COPFS @scottishprisons
This is both absolutely shocking and also not surprising - so many people in #prison have not been protected by social and criminal justice institutions

Attended the launch of the Scottish sentencing films tonight. So powerful, yet sad it’s a reminder more needs to be done to look at the impact imprisonment has on the family and how appropriate support needs to be put in place when there isn’t an alternative to custody

Epidemic spreading in prisons. Now in total lockdown. Staff shortages reducing regime further. Not sustainable for a protracted period. Can only be managed if population low enough to allow some regime. Urgent need now for EFFECTIVE early release scheme for low risk prisoners.
