This is Big League MUST SEE stuff. If you’re not leveraging Pitch Design to build better weapons, you’re not doing your job as a coach…
Pitch Design “U” is officially LIVE. Inside you’ll find: • 3 modules • 16 video lessons • 3+ hours of content Module #1 → Pitch Movement Fundamentals Inside this module you will learn key terms and definitions involved in pitch movement. You will also learn how to read…
2500 players in the portal (assuming across all levels) & the portal hasn’t even opened yet…this summer is going to be nuts 🤯
Final update for the night: There are now 2,594 players in the portal. Four more teams joined the portal pass today. What's unique is that we're starting to see programs sign up due to the positive feedback from other member schools.
Pitch movement should be looked at in relation to the primary fastball. Below is the average movement separation off of the four-seam fastball in MLB (RHP).
Here's a unique angle we filmed on the @ChronosCameras showing the timing of scapular retraction & how the arm unwinds into release. This delay between torso rotation & the arm coming through creates a stretch through the pec fascia, allowing for a powerful "pull" into release.
Bat tracking data is here! I put together a video with some of my observations. A much-needed step in how we talk about hitting. Within: bat speed decreasers with 2 strikes, pitcher application, are the Rays onto something? Tease below, full video to follow!

Did some more research into naive metrics for predicting wOBA, and it seems that we can get even simpler than K-BB% K% has a greater correlation to Next Season wOBA than K-BB% Striking out batters at an elite clip is king, and being so prolific at it can trump a poor BB%
This is probably most digestible, important part: In trying to predict next-seasons wOBA (which really is the target), lil ole (K-BB)% does almost as well as most advanced, complex of measures noted below I love Naive metrics as benchmark, and you dont get more naive than K-BB
Process🔋
Here is a process stat cheat sheet. Good process = good results (long term)
High IQ Baseball 🧠
Peyton Holt with the pump-fake of the century. Had Florida in a blender. Him pretending to catch the ball early threw off the timing of the runner at 3rd

Another pitcher benefiting from shifting to a 2 seam changeup grip. @Nolanlamere picking up the correct spin orientation very quickly!

Dumb
Mason Miller's 4-Seam Fastball was the Highest Grading tjStuff+ Pitch from yesterday Mason Miller is the best RP in baseball, and one of the most dominant pitchers I have ever seen 48.3 Whiff% on a 4-Seam for the season. That number feels fake
Paul Skenes in AAA: - 12.2 IP - 0.00 ERA - 0.71 WHIP - 57.4 K% - 109 tjStuff+ This is the #1 Pitching Prospect in baseball
🔥 📈
Average velocity of a fourseam fastball, MLB pitchers by year by inning, miles per hour:
Intelligent thoughts…
In the discussion on pitching elbow injuries, here’s generally how i think about it: Inputs… Mechanics Strength and conditioning Workload Management Recovery time btwn pitches Sticky Stuff (Fatigue) Outputs… Pitch velocity Stress on the body (injury risk) (Fatigue)
Many falling victim to the plethora of biases that cloud our thoughts and feelings…This Data doesn’t lie 📊
There is no Tommy John surge this spring -- it's just always this bad since ~2014. Today marks the 100th day of the year, a period during when most elbow injuries occur. We looked at the first 100 days of each year re: TJS procedures for MLB and all pro pitchers since Tommy John…
Time & Attention = Two of our most scarce resources @michaelgervais
What deserves your attention? Simple, yet one of the more foundational (and complex) questions I believe all coaches need to build systems for.
Trend that’s occurring at all levels…slower in D1 P5, but moving in that direction.
The fastball is dying. The Boston #RedSox are killing it. New video on the downtrend in fastball usage, why it makes sense, and a sharp idea on how to think about sequencing just dropped. 🔥 (Includes the best thumbnail I've ever made.) Tease ⬇️, full vid next tweet!
