For the record, I know plenty of Sicilians who’ll refuse any request out of sheer stubbornness, no matter how many of their daughters are getting married that day.

To all the people who believe that the victim can sue the government when ICE violates her constitutional rights, I have something to tell you and it's going to make you sad.
What’s blooming in my 9B backyard this morning. 9/23/25. Turks Cap, Okra, Four O’Clocks, Garlic Chives, Barbados Cherry, and Daisy Jane.
My grandma summed it up pretty well— “Pine pollen just makes people crazy.”
We have a toxic relationship with East Texas, because everytime we duck behind the pine curtain we just love it, despite its abhorrent backwardness. It's charms are completely intoxicating and it makes zero sense. -OS

Sometimes the chasm between real life and the stories told in judicial opinions seems too far to bridge. But we try, and we will keep trying, to have the rule of law protect everyone equally, and to have your stories told correctly.
CA5 holds, 2-1, that Houston's denial of a repair permit for a flooded property is a "categorical" taking . The dissent is kind of interesting. Judge Dennis literally cut and pasted the district court's opinion, and then closed with this. ca5.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub/2…

Reminder that Texas attorneys have an ethical duty of technical competence. So, as one hypothetical example, we should not use removable stickers to “redact” documents we plan on sending back to the jury because the Lord has already caused Adobe to add a “redaction” tool.
I fall in love a little every time someone follows up. Not romantically, professionally. Because in litigation, following up is one of the most underrated power moves you can make. There is nothing I love more than walking into court and showing the judge, “Here’s the five emails…
A good court reporter makes trial so much more tolerable. This one gives out chocolate at breaks. Truly doing the Lord’s work out here.

I'm not in the habit of reposting LinkedIn stuff here, but this is good - I'm so happy we have clients willing to trust our junior associates to argue important cases for them.

My (female) opposing counsel referred to another female attorney as a “trollop” today. The wonders never cease, really.
I’ve lived in Boston, and served on an ice breaker. I know ice. You can’t drive on ice, my southern neighbors. It ends poorly. Always. Don’t drive on ice. And tomorrow morning this is all going to be ice.
I’m the weirdo who loved studying for and taking the LSAT. I love the rules and puzzles part of law. It’s the people part of lawyering that I find so exhausting.
I’m studying for the LSATs. Yes, I’m 40 years old and trying to start a new career. I’ve learned that my Chemistry brain needs to make a major transition to reading comprehension. Is this question easy or difficult to you?
I call this the “zone of reasonable Bluebooking.”
This is hilarious. So many judges have their own preferences about citation style. I worked for two different judges who clerked at SCOTUS and each has different things they prefer from the style guide over the bluebook. Just make it consistent and clean and no one will notice.
Amen. I see a lot of hard fought cases. So many moments where we each might have done better. That being said, there are a few truly miserable stinkers out there. I feel bad for their families.
To be a good litigator, study Rules of Procedure, Local Rules, but what is perhaps the most important, is being a kind person (something I try to work on, although I do not always succeed. And it's ok to fail but always try). Litigation is stressful, you don't need more of it.
