Finally a new episode! I interview the great @MikeDrout about his new book, The Tower and the Ruin (which you should certainly go and read when it is published December 2nd!) Thanks Michael for a fantastic chat! benjaminbassett.substack.com/p/professor-mi…

Yes, and this includes literary theory of various kinds - even, dare I say, Tolkien studies.

Increasingly convinced one of the most dangerous classes of books is those that convince their readers they now possess some degree of authoritative, even esoteric understanding of the field, while in reality just providing a surface-level introduction.

So is The Left (TM) basically anti-Tolkien now?

A new interview coming soon with a very interesting scholar (with a new book out in December)...stay tuned.

benjaminbassett.substack.com/p/interview-gi… A new episode, finally, wherein I interview Giuseppe Pezzini, author of a new book on Tolkien. Please enjoy.

The podcast will be back soon(ish) via an interview with Giuseppe Pezzini, author of the (very good) new book, Tolkien and the Mystery of Literary Creation.

Reading Tolkien: A Podcast reposted

Our societies are too enslaved to market logic, and everything risks being subject to self-interest and the quest for profit. Volunteering is prophecy and a sign of hope, because it bears witness to the primacy of gratuitousness, solidarity, and service to those most in need.

It looks like @MikeDrout's book is listed on Amazon UK for release in December 2025. If you have any interest in Tolkien at all you should buy this book. I simply cannot wait to read it. amazon.co.uk/dp/1324093889?…
