The “super-flu” season that started early has also peaked early, and at a lower level than last year. Who would have thunk it?
Why am I not surprised that the MP who wants to slaughter vulnerable elderly humans on the NHS supports 'animal rights'
Proud to support the animal welfare strategy from @DefraGovUK Great news for pets, farm animals, and wild animals: 🐶Puppy farming banned 🐓 Chicken cages and pig farrowing to be ended 🐇 Banning snare traps and reducing hare coursing For more: gov.uk/government/new…
The government that have decriminalised abortion up to birth have decided we need more humane ways of killing fish in case they feel pain.
Progressives have things the wrong way round - they should spend less time trying to figure out why some younger men seem to like Tate and much more time trying to figure out why they really don't like progressives. If you solve that, you'll solve the Tate problem with it.
The story of Scrooge is centered entirely around his greed. In 1843, Scrooge pays Bob Cratchit 15 shillings per week. That's 0.75 pounds per week, or £39 per year. Adjusting for inflation, that comes out to about $530 USD per week or $27,574 per year. The federal minimum…
Here's a good place to start. £105 million was spent on Turing in the 2024/25 academic year, and helped fund over 43,000 student placements for British students. The Erasmus scheme on average saw around 15,000 British students a year, and cost the UK between £200-300 million
The numbers in this must be wrong. It suggests hard pressed UK taxpayers will pay £570m for one year of Erasmus?! Turing - which helps more UK students - costs little more than £100m. If the numbers are correct this is a terrible deal at a time when apparently there is no money.
UK to rejoin EU's Erasmus student exchange scheme, six years after leaving in Brexit deal - follow live bbc.in/4q5FX2s
Bonnie Blue being given a Spectator column just reinforces the idea that young people can do tacky things - then get rewarded for it. Whereas young people who work hard don’t get these breaks. It’s leading to this grim “Mizzy Economy” of attention-seeking/ being vile to get ahead
David Lammy thinks the UK should join a Customs Union with the EU. This week's Substack breaks down the real economic impact—beyond the headlines and political soundbites. 1. A Bespoke (Lib Dem) Customs Union would not help the UK's economy, as it won't address the underlying…
There are two ways to play the human in a Muppet movie. The first is to act like the Muppets are humans (Michael Caine). The second is to act like you are a Muppet (Tim Curry). Both strategies are commendable
For those sick and tired of Thatcherite (neoliberal) fantasies about us all being 'better off these days', here are a few indisputable facts. I'll keep this as short and simple as possible - sorry about the 'averages', but there's a brief disaggregation below. In the 1970s,…
The Turing student scheme post Brexit spends our money on helping UK students go to universities all round the world. The Erasmus EU scheme we used to belong to spent lots of our money on subsidising EU students to come here. We should not go back to Erasmus.
Politicians now gaslight us unconstrained. This one says not a single asylum seeker/illegal immigrant came by boat in 2017. And was applauded for it. But that’s because they were pouring in by the thousands hidden in lorries and other transport. It was only when improved…
Daisy Cooper, "In 2017 there was not a single asylum seeker that arrived on a boat" "Today we have 46,000 a year" "And do you know why?" "Brexit" "Pushed through by Boris Johnson and championed by Nigel Farage" *audience erupts in applause" #BBCQT "Nigel Farage should be…
🔴Former Ofsted Chief Baroness Spielman warns that children could easily be "coached" online to pass capacity assessments and access assisted suicide once they reach age 18.
The biggest “free lunch” in Britain is auctioning off the landing slots to pay for the Heathrow third runway. They’re worth ~£15-40 billion. It would make the project entirely self-funding *and* have a more efficient use of the runway than the current plan to give them away.
Each of Starmer, Macron, and Merz, is incredibly unpopular at home - the era of vapid centrism has been over for some time
Not since Britain voted to leave the EU in 2016 have links with France and Germany been this strong. Quietly, the trio is emerging as Europe’s new top-tier leadership economist.com/europe/2025/11…
Many of us warned Assad was the lesser of two evils - one of the errors made was confusing Israeli policy (which sensibly did not want to make bad situations worse) with the idiot Neocon bloc (wanting regime change). Interesting thread on Israeli policy towards Julani's Syria now
Israel insists that the Beit al-Jinn attack is proof that Israel "is no longer dealing with a terror organization but with a new enemy state, [#Syria] possessing an army, an economy, and strategic alliances [Turkey]," argues @AmichaiChikli The critical point says Israel's…
Things we are now being asked to sacrifice for the sake of the AS bill: —The NHS’s founding principles —Hippocratic Oath —Universal suicide prevention —Hospices which want to opt out —Prohibition on the state taking the lives of its citizens —The constitutional role of the Lords
For a former Leader of the House to be community noted for misrepresenting the constitution and respective roles of the two Houses is quite something! Again we see those in favour of this Bill willing to say anything to get this wretched bill on to the statute books.
Thousands of US troops killed and maimed. Up to one million killed in pointless wars, Christianity all but extinguished in the Middle East, a domino effect in the flow of refugees that has led to a crisis in Europe that is still unfolding. And Trump is a direct effect of all…
