Congrats to all these Breakthrough Producers! I was delighted to co-chair the subgroup this year with @JolyByName. Some amazing feats of producing in what is a really challenging time. And well done to @BIFA_film for recognising the producers with their own award. #BIFA2024

Would any writing mummas be up for a chat about how they juggle writing and parenting? He’s still pretty little at 6 months but I’m currently having to dictate everything and wondering if anyone had any better ideas 🤪

Congrats to this cohort of talented producers. Delighted to be mentoring this year. Producers are the lifeblood of indie film, so pleased to see @BIFA Springboard supporting them in this way. #Film #Producing bifa.film/springboard/sp…

I can assure everyone that neither I, nor any producer I know looks at this.

OKAY, I'm doing it folks! Here's how I got by £££ as an independent producer, who came neither from wealth, nor from London (grew up in South Yorkshire). It's important to say that I wish producing were a sustainable career in itself at every level. But this has been the reality.

Question for film folks. Given the current climate, and as a producer who doesn’t come from wealth, would it be helpful to literally anyone if I broke down all the different means of earning £££ I’ve done alongside producing over the years to make it sustainable?

Some thoughts on the new Indie Film Tax Credit 🧵 I'll preface this by saying that I think it's a really good thing and we should be happy to have this uplift for indie film. And any calculations I've done are my estimates.

Breaking: UK introduces 40% tax relief for films budgeted up to £15m in bid to reignite indie sector screendaily.com/news/uk-introd…

UK Producers' Roundtable repostou

💯 If enhanced tax credit for indie UK films happens, producers fees (& writers / directors) should be ring-fenced with fee definition agreed by law. No deferment possible is you want the tax credit. + a % of it should be treated as producer equity by law. No ifs no buts.

The problem is that the industry is built on the free work indie producers do. We have built a culture that accepts, indie producers must discover, develop + launch unproven talent for everyone else in the industry to profit. But we are not prepared to pay for that service.

UK Producers' Roundtable repostou

These are the people that grow and develop the British film industry, that discover and nurture talent, and train crew. The entire future of the British film industry rests on these people, and yet, they are chronically under supported, undervalued, and forced out.

UK Producers' Roundtable repostou

78% of indie producers work 40+ hrs a week on their producing, and have to hold down a second job because fees are crushingly low.

UK Producers' Roundtable repostou

82% report that their job has a negative impact on their mental health. 83% of respondents report that being an indie producer is completely unsustainable.
