Excellence in lower middle market M&A; buying companies with a purpose; also, a law firm

The best way to ETA is to go work at the business you want to buy first. Work there for a couple of years, gain trust, learn the business. You’ll be more successful and might even get a better deal.

This is the best sermon I’ve ever heard. Jesus was convicted of the crimes of treason and blasphemy, which he did not commit; nevertheless, he took the penalty. We, on the other hand, are guilty of both every day; nevertheless, we are freed. tinysa.com/sermon/7713237…

Actual text I just had to send my wife: "Sorry I got frustrated earlier. I’m actually not frustrated. I just hate the government because they are so stupid."

The inspiration for the name Purpose Equity comes from Genesis 12:2 where God calls Abram from Ur and tells him: “And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.” The “so that” means “for the purpose of” in…

Just got a quote on the refinance of a small Class B industrial property we own from a local credit union. 7.5%, 25 year am. Only one of the quotes we got was above 8%. Feeling pretty good about this, what do y'all think?

Didn't make the @AxialCo Top 100 M&A Advisors this year, but we're just getting started. Deal flow is strong right now and pipeline is even stronger.

We do cold email outreach to business owners as part of our marketing plan. Sent an email yesterday to the president of a $300 million revenue / $60 million EBITDA business with 800 employees and 230 family SH. WAY bigger than our average client. He responded and just wanted…

Remember, O LORD, against the Edomites the day of Jerusalem, how they said, "Lay it bare, lay it bare, down to its foundations!" O daughter of Babylon, doomed to be destroyed, blessed shall he be who repays you with what you have done to us! Psalm 137:7-8

Is there a "residential roofing guy" on SMB Twitter? Starting to see a lot of activity in the roofing space and just curious if there is someone who I can follow to learn more.

Happy to see an increasing number of PE groups coming online interested in new construction related businesses. I take it to mean that there are more PE groups raising money with flexible / longer-term investors. Hopefully less financial machinations and greater focus on…

Little bit of feedback on the state of the markets: Talked to a PE buyer that bought a $2.7 million EBITDA mfg last year. They'd pay one turn of EBITDA less today due to interest rates.

A lot of time sellers believe that purchase price = peace of mind. Often is does not. Sure, there's a floor you need to sell your business for, but after you hit that floor, what are you sacrificing for that extra $$?

Big week coming up. 4 meetings with 3 potential buyers for our 2 electrical contractor clients. Strategic buyer coming to SC to meet with 2 industrial maintenance clients. PE group coming to meet with cleaning company client. And I’m going to Charleston to meet with a…

Almost 3 years ago to the day, while laying in bed, I opened the twitter app and tweeted out that I wanted to buy a landscaping business. I ended up doing it. 2 years ago to the date, we formed our holding company around buying landscaping companies and subsequently acquired 6…

Who can you sell your business to? Lots of permutations, but these are the basics. These apply to businesses with > $1.5 m EBITDA (not a hard and fast rule, just a guideline). A 🧵

Just got off an intro call with @thomasince. Great guy building a great culture at @lpfirstcapital. We'll be doing some deals together!

Anyone know who is rolling up the wholesale florist industry? Potential client looking to transact and we’ve never done flowers before. 🤷‍♂️

Just a reminder about who we are and what we do . . . Purpose Equity helps business owners transition their company wisely (i.e., sell-side M&A). Right fit + right $ = better chances of success. We work with family and founder-owned businesses across the Carolinas and…

Going to market with two electrical contractors, just starting management meetings. Combined $7.2 million EBITDA. Working hard to get it right for these guys. Finding the right mix between sales price and cultural fit is threading the needle. We pour ourselves into these…

Part of the reason I got into the M&A advisory business is the lack of sophisticated advisors for those business owners that fall in between good clients for business brokers and good clients for larger investment banks. Lots of blue collar guys in that range that deserve solid…
