I'd like to urge the federal government @GovCanHealth and Health Minister @PattyHajdu to please fast-track the approval process of such treatments so people hopefully don't have to live with this unforgivable disease and get a chance to spend more time with their loved ones.
Unlike other illnesses, ALS patients don't have the luxury of time to wait for potential life-saving drugs to be approved. My dad went from being perfectly healthy to his diagnosis in about a year & a half, & from his diagnosis to his final days on a hospital bed in only a month.
In Canada, there are currently only 2 approved treatments, Riluzole and Radicava, which can only slow down the progression of the disease and is not effective in every single patient. Radicava has only been available since 2020.
6 years ago on this day was my father's funeral. He died from ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease. Despite tens of millions of dollars and a lot of awareness being raised this past decade, there is still no cure or effective treatment for ALS.

Wrote up a doc/ narrative series that takes real stories of people who were born/moved to Canada decades ago, where they narrate a moment in the past that happened to them. We will work with the interviewee to bring these untold, crazy, WILD, true stories to life. @STORYHIVE
