My article on the cricket-playing of Arthur Conan Doyle, P.G Wodehouse and two other fascinating writers called George Ives and E.W. Hornung is now freely available online! Something that might be of interest to @AuthorsCC @CCampbell_Agent @holland_tom @nicholas_hogg ...

How can studies of group activities inform our understanding of historical figures? Ollie Randall's article, 'Cricket, Literary Culture and In-Groups’, explores the ‘Authors XI’, a cricket team of writers active between 1899 & 1912 bit.ly/4ec1dOa #twitterstorians 2/2

If you see news about Ryan Routh, who allegedly attempted to assassinate Trump, he has never been associated with Ukraine’s military in any capacity. He lied about being a recruiter. This is a tweet from an actual recruiter back in June.

Warning about Ryan Routh: he is not, and never has been, associated with the International Legion or the Ukrainian Armed Forces at all. He is not, & never has been, a legion recruiter. He is misrepresenting himself and lying to many people.

BREAKING: Sunak is going to take a day off the trail tomorrow in a highly unusual move so early in the campaign. He will spend it at home in talks with his senior aides. But the Tories insist this is NOT a campaign relaunch. theguardian.com/politics/artic…

a) a bunch of the more outré research is social history in technical language b) funding historical research is speculative, the benefit lies in trying to refine our pictures of the world c) ‘oh only 10 people will read it’, yes but those 10 people write things for 100, and

The irony is, by showing no awareness of the importance of trade-offs between the moral economy (who deserves to be fed?) and the market economy (who does capitalism feed?), Gill's blinkered bitterness is a perfect example of the cost of not understanding topics like this

The arts and humanities are in a dire funding crisis. A+H are essential for a healthy democracy. Cherrypicking examples of projects you think aren't worthy, and using them as reasons to "pressure the Government to defund" A+H, is, at best, irresponsible and wrongheaded

I know this is depressing reading but we have to audit this nonsense. Then we can pressure the Government to defund it. It’s not the taxpayer’s job to pay for pseudoscience. If someone wants to see if healing crystals make Scotland more diverse, they can pay for it themselves.

But like... what did "throwing people off the scent" (it didn't) ACHIEVE? Instead of him going "Ha!" at a press conference two weeks ago, we got him going "Ha!" at a press conference today. Truly bamboozling mind games

NEW: Lee Anderson admits to press huddle he was “throwing you lot off the scent” when he formally denied he was planning to join Reform. A new one for the lexicon. Asked why he lied he said “that’s politics darling”.

Let's not forget that Hartley also outscored Crawley, Root, Bairstow and Foakes in this Test #INDvENG #bbctms #tomhartley
