Maybe the least surprising report of all time from someone who would know. Everyone on Twitter who took SC's line at face value:
A person with direct knowledge of the communications between the Big Ten conference office and schools confirmed to @NBCSports that all 18 schools received the full language of the CFP MOU, which was unanimously supported by all current and incoming members in March 2024.
It's pretty simple. Everyone knew about it and USC, which never intended to extend the series, tossed this out as red meat for uninformed people to latch onto as an excuse. This isn't hard to people that are actually media literate, but most people aren't.
I remain confused how the MOU became such a surprise. A Notre Dame CFP threshold was reported a year and a half ago. It was background noise to expansion and we media didn’t know all the details, but we knew some. Did commissioners not inform their schools of the whole thing?

At the risk of being Old Takes Exposed... I think Miami is going to beat Texas A&M today, and I don't think it'll be all that close. Neither team has any win of note besides (unfortunately) my team, but Miami has played quality football lately and the Aggies... Have not.
