I don't get the hoo-ha about different distortion / saturation. Maybe I need better monitors. Four types below: soft clip, hard clip, peak compression with no clip, and an expansion. See if you can figure out which is which. I think only one is obvious

Everyone should mix live drums once. A bunch of tracks all bleeding into each other, ringing, huge variation in volume and everything else
Mixing is simple. 1. I do a lot to create a frequency and dynamic picture/profile of a song. 2. I learn a lot about the song in the process. 3. Because of that, I undo most of what I did and everything is cool
