Great Soviet artist Alexander Deineka traveled to USA in the 30s & got fascinated with Harlem. He went there to listen to music and watch people dance, painted a few paintings of African Americans after he came back to Russia. This wonderful painting is titled“Negro concert.”

Wayland Rudd, Sr. came to the Soviet Union in 1932 with a group of 22 people including a great American poet Langston Hughes. He stayed in Russia for good. On this photo he plays Othello in Russian with a traveling theatre, 1947.

George Tynes, the black American who came to the Soviet Union in 1931, dances with his Russian wife, Maria. An agriculture specialist, he became an important duck breeder in the USSR at that time. In fact, he was the one who introduced turkey to Russia as well as Peking duck.
