A few days before the big move, stock up on supplies.Order or purchase box cutters, adhesive bandages, permanent markers, packing tape, paper towels, and garbage bags. If they aren't all used during the move, they'll still be useful afterward, especially during unpacking.
On the night before the move, tuck everyday essentials-a change of clothes, a toothbrush, must-have stuffed animals or toys for the kids, medications, paperwork, etc.-into a suitcase or bag you'll keep with you in the car, the truck cab, or on the plane.
If you're hiring moving services, renting supplies, or having services such as painters or cleaners work on the house, book early. Waiting to do so could mean paying a higher price or not being able to get a truck or movers at all, particularly if it's peak moving season.
Ideally, you'll know about a move weeks or even months in advance. Start by packing off-season items and the items you won't miss. When it's time to pack everything up, many items will already be ready to go.
Start collecting new addresses, rental or purchase papers, moving contracts, and more in one folder. If any questions come up during the planning process or the move itself, you'll have the answer on hand.
Before you pack a single box, do a merciless purge of unused or unnecessary items. You'll have less to pack, less to move, and less to unpack-and you'll start life in your new space with a clean slate.
Packing all your possessions into boxes, bags, and more can be overwhelming. Make it a little bit easier on yourself by cutting back on excess and clutter as much as possible.
Use boxes designed for moving. Boxes obtained from grocery or liquor stores are not always clean and might not hold the weight of the items that you will be putting in them. In addition, varying box sizes can make loading more difficult.
When disassembling furniture, store all the screws and hardware in a plastic bag, then tape the bag to the furniture. Or use a box instead, and label the box to the appropriate piece of furniture. #MovingHack
Save time and money during a move- Check in with local retailers and businesses to see if they have any spare, used boxes in usable condition. Or ask on your local social media pages- Reuse, Recycle!
Pack items that you'll need the soonest in an "open first" box. These items include things like bedding, towels, hand soap, etc. When you're exhausted from the move, at least you can take a warm shower and make the bed!
Moving tip! Cover the openings of your toiletries with saran wrap, then put the tops back on. No spills!
For extra padding, pack your glasses and stemware in clean socks.
While your clothes are still hanging in the closet, put them inside a trash bag to make unpacking simpler. These little life hacks make moving day a breeze!
Remove any dents in the carpet that furniture left behind with ice cubes. Simply place the ice cubes on the dents, let them melt, and use a spoon to lift the fibers.
#MovingTip! Rather than throwing unwanted items in storage (or even the dump), look into donating said items instead! Make sure to ask for a receipt too to claim a tax deduction.
Make your home shine before a showing! Get rid of scuff marks on hardwood floors by cutting a hole in a tennis ball, then put the tennis ball on the end of a broom and rub the scuff mark out until it's gone!

Take the extra time to label boxes not only with the room they need to be in, but what's inside as well. For example, if you write "den" and "books" you know what's inside, and the priority in which to unpack.
