Has the SCC leader been grappling with how he grabs wealth in East Surrey to pay for losses elsewhere? Can we ask the opposite question? Can we have an election to determine who we want to grapple with this question other than the current incumbent?

Cancelling elections is deeply undemocratic. Councillors need to be accountable to their electorate & although unitary authorities are desirable a rushed solution without consultation & agreement risks a bodge job #LetSurreyVote

Elections in Surrey could be postponed for a year, after the county council agreed to write to the government to request a delay. Tap below to read more: bbc.in/4gLGiDc

If he wants to do this & force it on us, it should come with the caveat that he rules himself out of being mayor if the option comes up in 2027-28. It would slightly soothe my nerves that forcing a debt mountain onto those who didn't cause it is for self serving reasons.

Very true - as far as I am aware Reigate and Banstead is the only council in Surrey with Financial reserves. They should not be used to pay of the debts of other councils in Surrey. We need our Theatre replaced and a proper Police Station, not sent elsewhere.

Not just SCC Leader.., Yesterday the following local councillors all voted to cancel the election 🗳️ this May Tory Cllrs Bennett, Beach, Kelly, Lewanski, Bramhall & Green Cllr Baart We believe that the election should go ahead- local democracy & accountability is important

There it is - in the video I posted yesterday I noted this accelerated option that they're taking, which is TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. We need this stalled asap.

The leader of Surrey Council wants to delay the local elections in May, so that he has time to work out how to further consolidate his power... I mean, so he can manage the 'unique, significant financial risk of the level of debt currently held across Surrey local govt'

Honestly @SouthernRailUK & @nationalrailenq why can’t you fix Redhill station to any reasonable state? Why have you replaced all this guttering with new plastic guttering *that still leaks*?!

Just repair it! You are grossly underfunding the school. Stop the games, stop failing the school and stop failing the children in it.

This makes it sound like they’re performing brain surgery, rather than slowly letting a school fall to pieces.

Hi Kate - The fencing around the Bell Tower remains in place because of ongoing structural monitoring. A further review is scheduled next month to assess whether the fencing can be removed or must remain to allow for necessary repairs. 1/2
