Finished my last day of veterinary school today! By this time next week I will officially be a doctor 🎓👩🏻‍⚕️


Rotation #25: Radiology 🩻 ☢️ ✅Positioned & interpreted thoracic/abdominal/msk rads in dogs/cats ✅Assisted with equine rads ✅Saw a variety of wildlife rads - birds, opossums, turtles ✅Helped with an equine bone scan Cannot stress enough the importance of radiation safety‼️


Rotation #24: Lab Animal 🐁🧬🦠 ✅ Learned about mice and rat colony management including the treatment of common diseases (aka ulcerative dermatitis!) ✅ Applied daily wound care for one of our teaching goats who was found with a large laceration on her leg


Rotation #23: Anesthesia (again!) 🩺💉 ✅ Became more confident in addressing anesthetic complications (ex. hypotension, bradycardia) ✅ Better understood the side effects of the anesthetic drugs we use and which situations we should avoid each of them


Rotation #22: Externship at A Pet’s Place Animal Hospital 🏠🐩 ✅ Gained more experience with dental cleaning and extractions ✅ Monitored anesthesia for dental and surgical procedures ✅ Communicated treatment and diagnostic options with clients


Rotation #21: Anesthesia 🩺💉 ✅ Customized anesthetic protocols for patients for surgical procedures, MRIs, CTs, etc ✅ Became more familiar with drugs used for premedication and induction ✅ Became more comfortable setting up an anesthesia machine


Rotation #20: Shelter Medicine at Companion Animal Alliance 🐶🐱 ✅ Practiced numerous spays and neuters ✅ Learned how to autoligate in cat spays and neuters ✅ Helped out with the local TNR program


Rotation #19: Equine Ambulatory at VetWerx 🐎🛻 ✅ Primary closure castration ✅ Bone marrow collection for stem cells ✅ Lameness exams ✅ Tooth removal ✅ Head and feet CTs ✅ Scoping for gastric ulcers Grateful to spend the holidays with my family in Colorado!


Rotation #18: Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery 😷 ✅ Mast cell tumor removal ✅ Thoracotomy and lung lobectomy ✅ Importance of wound management


I’m excited to announce that I passed my NAVLE! Next up: graduation 🎉


Rotation #17: Diagnostic Pathology 🔪 ✅ Performed necropsies on all species (including many birds, turtles, and a sea lion!) ✅ Collect samples from major organs for histopathology ✅ Learned how to to collect brain samples for rabies testing


Rotation #16: Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery 🦴🩻 ✅Saw my first TPLO ✅Scrubbed into an elbow arthroscopy ✅Practiced my orthopedic exam ✅Did an FNA of a chondrosarcoma on a cat


Rotation #15: LA Emergency 🐴🐐🐷 ✅Juggled 3 colic cases in one (very long) night ✅Placed an ear catheter in a pig ✅Saw my first case of choke in a horse


Rotation #14: Small Animal Internal Medicine🫁🐈🐕🩺 ✅Refreshed my Cushing’s and Addison’s knowledge ✅Learned how to manage a PIMA case ✅Saw my first case of hypothyroidism is a dog ✅Saw my first I-131 treatment in a cat


Rotation #13: Theriogenology 🔬🥚 ✅ Practiced evaluating sperm and freezing semen ✅ First time collecting a stallion ✅ Greatly improved my palpation and transrectal ultrasound skills to evaluate a mares uterus + ovaries ✅ First time seeing an ovarian remnant irl!
