Federal judges in 2 states have now affirmed what we have said all along: The Trump admin has the money to pay SNAP benefits. Their refusal to do so is illegal. They must release these funds & stop using hungry children, seniors and veterans as pawns in their political games.
Breaking News: A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to continue paying for food stamps during the government shutdown. SNAP, which aids 42 million people, was set to run out of funds on Saturday without intervention. nyti.ms/4qDhdzP
Happy Halloween!🎃 Whether you're trick-or-treating with the kids, dressing up for a party, or enjoying the spirit of the season, I hope you have a fun and safe night. Let’s keep our communities safe and remain alert while enjoying the night! #NY05
RM @RepGregoryMeeks spoke with Jamaican Ambassador Antony Anderson to express support for the people of Jamaica as they recover from Hurricane Melissa, and reaffirmed his commitment to push for swift U.S. disaster relief assistance.
The government’s been shut down for 29 days. Health costs are rising, Republicans are on paid vacation, and now the GOP plans to stop food assistance next month. Democrats are ready to reopen the government for the American people. Why aren’t Republicans?
Superstorm Sandy hit New York 13 years ago today and changed our communities forever. I’ll never forget the resilience and strength New Yorkers displayed during such devastation. I'll always fight to make sure we have the federal resources to prepare for the next major storm.
We can’t go back. From #SuperstormSandy to #HurricaneMelissa, extreme weather disasters have become too frequent due to climate change. We won’t stand by while the Trump administration jeopardizes our health and safety. #ActOnClimate.
My thoughts are with the people of Jamaica and the many New Yorkers with family and friends there as the island experiences its most powerful storm in history.
Ranking Member @RepGregoryMeeks, Ranking Member @JoaquinCastrotx and @RepYvetteClarke are calling on the State Department to swiftly deploy necessary disaster relief assistance to Jamaica and the Caribbean ahead of Hurricane Melissa’s expected landfall:
Families across the country rely on SNAP to keep food on the table. Now, because of the Republican shutdown, hardworking Americans face uncertainty about whether they’ll be able to afford food next month.
.@RepGraceMeng and I met with hospital leaders at @JamaicaHospital to discuss expanding access to affordable health care for Queens families. The Republican health care crisis puts care out of reach for too many Americans. Everyone deserves reliable care. It’s a basic right.
RMs @RepGregoryMeeks & @SenatorShaheen sent a letter to @SecRubio demanding records related to the State Dept's violation of the Hatch Act, when internal & external Department communications were used to promote partisan, political messaging related to the government shutdown.
Trump and House Republicans remain completely disengaged, unwilling to negotiate a bipartisan agreement to reopen the government and drive down skyrocketing health care costs.
Ranking Member @RepGregoryMeeks released the following statement in the lead-up to Tanzania’s elections on October 29:
Wishing a very Happy Diwali to all who celebrate! May this Festival of Lights bring joy, peace, and prosperity to your homes and communities. #NY05
Today I visited @jpafhc, a vital part of our community providing life-saving care to Queens families. But Addabbo and health centers across the country are under attack. Republican health care cuts threaten preventive services, eliminates jobs and put American lives at risk!
Republicans have created a health care crisis. Medicaid is cut, Medicare is under attack, and health care premiums are set to double. Democrats are fighting for affordable health care for the American people. We won’t back down!
Reporting continues to highlight the widespread suffering & death caused by the Trump admin’s dismantling of USAID & deep cuts to US foreign aid. RM @RepGregoryMeeks is again demanding @SecRubio explain his claim before Congress that “no one has died” as a result of the cuts.
📞Join my telephone town hall tomorrow, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.! I’ll be discussing the Republican Health Care Crisis and answering your questions. 🚨RSVP by visiting: meeks.house.gov/services/telep…
Statement from Ranking Member @RepGregoryMeeks on President Trump’s meeting with President Zelensky today:
RM @RepGregoryMeeks: President Trump's extrajudicial killings and deployments in South America were always meant to inch America toward a forever war—this time in our own hemisphere. The American people do not want this.
Today, I stood with my colleagues to condemn the Supreme Court case targeting the Voting Rights Act. This law was won through courage & sacrifice. Gutting the VRA puts our democracy & communities of color at risk and leaves millions of voices unheard.
