Saffron buns These buns are based on an 18th century recipe which contains fragrant coriander seeds rather than the customary dried fruit. Jolly lovely they are too with bacon, jam or Nutella (but obviously not all 3 at the same time!) @BritishBakeOff #breadweek

I wouldn’t mind bindweed SO much if you could eat it. This year it appears to have insinuated its way into every corner of the garden. (Can you eat it?! Somebody please say ‘yes’…)
During the Black Death, travellers arriving at locations on ships were forced to isolate in their ships for 40 days to prevent spread of infection. The Italian word for 40 is quaranta, which is where the word ‘Quarantine’ originates. #archaeohistories
Today on the blog we explore the hairy history of #rambutan! How did this fruit and its Malay name migrate across the tropical belt and become ubiquitously sold and eaten in Honduras? #FoodHistory -CGB recipes.hypotheses.org/18039

This is one of many reasons I study food and food history. We all need to eat. Food is an important unifying element that ties the human experience and condition together. It starts conversations. It foments compassion. I love this meme from a friend from the Philippines.
