People need cash to get care. Right now. Abortion is time-sensitive. It can’t wait until we reform the Supreme Court or get rid of the Filibuster. Or enough ballot initiatives pass to re-gain access state-by-state.
To be clear the "extreme messaging" that abortion funds support are calls to not leave young people, Medicaid recipients, trans people, later abortion patients, and disabled people out of the conversation. Abortion funds are trying to broaden the base in a way campaigners won't.
Both of these things are true: 1) Abortion funds help patients navigate & afford the wild & wildly expensive labyrinth that is legal abortion in the U.S. (so they don’t risk criminal charges). 2) We cannot Go-Fund-Me our way out of a public health crisis that impacts millions.
