I have compassion for them, because I can't imagine how much pain and stress they're under staying so firmly attached to a blatant and obvious lie.
The human ego is a powerful thing, and to admit that everything we stand for is built on lies is a big pill to swallow. It doesn't surprise me that so many people have struggled to admit it.
