BREAKING: Harlan Crow and his family's average yearly political contributions went up 862% after Citizens United was decided in 2010. Who provided a deciding vote for that case? Justice Clarence Thomas, a "family friend" they showered with luxury travel and gifts for 20+ years.
With the #IRSFiles, @Propublica ripped away the veil of performative complexity disguising the scams that the ultra-rich use to amass billions and billions (and billions and billions) of dollars, paying next to no tax, or even no tax at all. 1/
Princeton sociologist Matthew Desmond says if the top 1% of Americans paid the taxes they owed, it would raise $175 billion each year. "That is just about enough to pull everyone out of poverty," the author says. n.pr/3yT1Olt

mere hours before Twitter temporarily died for reasons that remain unclear, numerous House Republicans were literally thanking God for Elon Musk
Imo one of the best explanations to this was by David Graeber in thebaffler.com/salvos/of-flyi… "There was a time when academia was society’s refuge for the eccentric, brilliant, and impractical. No longer. It is now the domain of professional self-marketers"
Part 2: After the state settled its lawsuit with 3M in 2018, the AG made public thousands of internal 3M documents. We read them all. They show 3M ignored, delayed, minimized and obscured research that raised red flags about the chemicals for decades: minnesotareformer.com/2022/12/15/tox…
When Amara Strande was just 16, a 15-pound tumor was found embedded in her liver. Nearly the size of a volleyball. She was one of many students at Tartan High School in Oakdale who got cancer. Students joked about the water fountains, saying, “Don’t drink the 3M cancer water.” 🧵
If Twitter ends up forcing you to hand over your location and other data to continue using the platform, I'm done. This reporting by @ZoeSchiffer and @CaseyNewton is behind a paywall, but it's at least worth signing up for a free trial to read. platformer.news/p/twitters-ris…

I grew up in a union household. Collective bargaining is a key to economic justice. Today, our Congress not only voted to impose a contract on workers who rejected it, but the GOP and Manchin also failed to include the paid sick days workers were demanding. Shameful.
The paid sick leave for rail workers just failed. Majority of workers want it. Majority of Americans support it. Majority of senators vote for it. Doesn’t pass. This country isn’t remotely a democracy.
Dont know who @ made this. But so on point 🤣🤣🤣
Here we have @elonmusk once again showing us the limits to what he considers free speech
