Almost to page 10

Might get more pages later, but hit page 7 today after my midday session of 3 pages.

Happy with my decision to change the size of the Panopticon volume 2 paperback. Now it fits perfect in a pocket to read (edit) on set. Should be available at the end of November 2025!

Is screenwriting Twitter positivity or realism today? I’m going to start journaling my progress on my current script on here. I’ll fill everyone in later, but there are words on the page and I’ll post progress. Plan is to have a first draft finished before Christmas

I may not like writing on mobile, but you make do with what you’ve got on hand.

Fun fact for you screenwriters to share at AFF - crew people have been a huge part of the process for more than 2,000 years:

Film friends - when was the last time you filled out a job application?

Screenwriters - if your logline is pulled from a historical event or public domain, would that make you feel any more comfortable about posting your logline? More importantly, is the person who steals your logline instead of working on their own idea a better writer than you?

This post is unavailable.

Screenwriters - what are you building between Aug 15th and Sept 29th? If it’s anything other than your social media presence - like a script, a short film, a festival run, etc - should you take a social media break? I’m taking a social media break 8/15-9/29

Screenwriting Twitter - I’ll be taking a Twitter break from 8/15-9/29. I’m working on that thing we talked about - which some of you used and thank you for the feedback! Also working on three other projects that need my attention. If you need me during that time, email me.

This is absolutely the case for getting better at screenwriting. Keep showing up and keep pounding the basics: Are your characters interesting? Is the plot logical? Do the character’s choices evoke emotion from the audience? Great. Finish it and do it again.

Rip says, “Complexity appeals to stupid people,” but I think he gets it slightly wrong: Complexity appeals to midwits. Grug and Genius both know that simple-but-correct, applied with ruthless consistency and mental intensity, works better.

Making pancakes for the family only takes about 3 tracks from Zeppelin IV. Worthwhile endeavor.

Parents - our children have found us out. They’ve informed me that they know we only do “boring stuff” to annoy our kids. The jig is up!

Directors - if you want your crew to trust you know what you’re doing, coming to set having done your homework. Few things impress the crew as much as a director with storyboards. There is an end in sight for the work day every time you X out a board. Always a good thing
