If this psychopath could feel sympathy, Ruby would feel it for Hayden. All she can do is pretend to understand.
Ruby laughed. "Okay. I'm sorry." She chortled. "You're right. It seems like no one gives you the time of day because of how much pain you're in." Her expression was now serious. Done messing with her. "Everyone is too preoccupied with their own shit. Do you even smoke?"
"You were a lovesick little girl and obsessed with ruining a family. I've never had a family, so even thinking that someone could do that disgusts me. I don't get it either. He was so...old. Not trying to knock on your life or anything, I don't have any room to judge. But Jesus."
