One of my primary roles on @RubyofBlue's Halo 2: REBALANCE is polishing up the cinematics. A key part of that: dynamic lights! Halo 2 suffers from a lack of self shadowing and shadow casting by default. Using 3-point lighting, the quality of cinematics can be VASTLY improved.

By the way, the next H2R video will be delayed till after Gravemind since the CE remake video took up my video-making time. That means Gravemind is also underway~


Open question: For those of you who believe the Halo 3 Brutes were a step-down from Halo 2, what would you say were the key things they lost between games?

Some cool tech coming to @RubyofBlue 's Halo 2: Rebalance - LOD Sounds! LOD sounds only play at a distance. Later games had them, but Halo 2 didn't. Thankfully some leftover code in H2A let us recreate it! Big thanks to @DewLuna for setting it up on all the weapons/vehicles

I really wish the "shell" of the individual halo games were preserved into modern ports. MCC's universal UI is nice for convenience, but definitely loses something in the tradeoff. Each game's menus, manuals, and even loading screens all contribute to the unique vibe per game.

This is the kind of energy that is missing from the Halo remake’s “shell” right now. In game looks pretty but the UI elements? Marketing? Load screens? It lacks that Y2K aura Especially now that Y2K fashion, turn of the millennium aesthetic, etc etc is BACK..the remake needs it

You aren’t supposed to be able to take the Warthog up to steamroll the Hunters. I intentionally placed rocks in the way so you had to fight them on foot. When you can just smash the crates out of the way it wrecks the encounters. But the worst part? They put trees in the landing…
