If approved, developers will consider that road scheme has turned Green Belt into Grey Belt & the environmental and ecological harms will be even more extensive! It is a total betrayal of current and future generations!

Penelope McDonald reposted

PS over 40 hectares will be harmed, fractured or completely destroyed by the proposed Carrington Relief Road alone, a 19th century unsustainable nature-trashing, climate-busting, bank-breaking road solution that will not benefit any local community

An interesting dilemma, the land is home to many red listed farmland bird species with heavily depleted populations, including the skylark which readily makes an appearance more or less every time we take school children on walks here

How many acres is the agricultural land? Would it not be better for nature to restore this precious habitat instead of farming it?

Penelope McDonald reposted

I would not advocate turning parts of it into farmland but given it is farmland today, supporting not only red listed birds & food security, it sustains livelihoods & supply chains in the rural economy, those ecosystem services should be recognised, retained & enhanced

Obviously the road scheme shouldn’t happen but I do think Rights of Nature asks us deeper questions about land use & how we balance the interests of humans & nature. Particularly going beyond looking at how land happens to be used now & asking whether it’s genuinely the best use…

It is "allowed" because the planning system is totally driven by developers, not communities. It focuses ONLY on GREED not on NEED (so only on the £££ in profits, dividends & council income, not on nature's recovery or climate mitigation)!

How is this allowed? @Keir_Starmer in light of the disturbing report from the Joint Intelligence Committee we should NOT be destroying these vitally important biodiverse, natural assets..the excessive housing targets need to be addressed. @CHinchliffMP @NeilForPoole

And they are putting up equally ugly mega warehouses all over the countryside too! communityplanningalliance.org/uploads/1/3/9/…

A quote from me in this and excellent support from @CPRE Madness to remove pylons because they are ugly & intrusive while simultaneously planning into install 1000km of new ones! yahoo.com/news/articles/… @PylonsEAnglia

I just wanted to mention a wonderful #vegan restaurant near me in Ashton on Mersey called Hey Hey Vegan. The food is exquisite and the service is wonderful and I’d happily eat there every day!!!

An interesting observation Chris - expanding cash to trash so developers have even more powers seems to be right up the gov's street! I also wonder what the disaster recovery regimes will be, with so many of these energy-hungry beasts located in close proximity to each other!!!

Turns out it's AI data centres, not nature, that is the blocker... 🤷‍♂️ I guess developers should have the power to pay to destroy data centres then? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Plus carbon capture. £22bn literally poured into a big hole.

Sadly the government do not know what the term 'sustainable development' means - to them it is whatever development puts the most money in the pockets of the few!!!

Nature and housing can go hand in hand. We’ve seen it in the past with garden cities—and now towns planned within a new forest. They show what’s possible. Empower councils to build sustainable council housing that puts people and nature before profit.

It’s so obvious this is an attempt to distract from the nature killing planning bill and voting against swift bricks and other amendments. You can’t fool us! We need you to support the nature friendly amendments passed in the Lords. Until you commit to that this is greenwashing

Our woodlands breathe life into Britain, and I’m thrilled about the new national forest between Oxford and Cambridge, boosting nature and creating green jobs. 🌱 Read my piece in the @TheOxfordMail on it 👇 oxfordmail.co.uk/news/25598172.…
