Someday, maybe we won’t have to list which stations are accessible because they all will be. #disabledsnark

In the know: All stations along the West Busway & East Busway are ADA-accessible, featuring wheelchair ramps, curb cuts, guide rails & key station information in Braille. Select South Busway stations are accessible: S. Hills Junction, Palm Garden, Pioneer & Glenbury. ^J.D.

Buses are my primary mode of transit and I typically take 3-4 buses a day. It is an exception, rather than a rule, that drivers wait for me to be seated. The vast majority of drivers take off right away. You should remind all of your drivers about this issue.

Gotta love when the bus A.Almost doesn’t stop for me & B.Begins going again as soon as I board throwing me-a visibly disabled cane user-almost onto the floor of the bus. 👀 This happens far 2 often, @PGHtransit, & 1 of these days, your drivers are going to seriously injure some1.

As a person w/ a developmental disability, I’m honored to sit on the ISAC as we work toward making PA a great place to live for disabled people.

Broke: reinforcing the idea that people w/ mental illness are responsible for gun violence. Woke: engaging w/ disabled people to figure out how to not scapegoat our community. Cc: @erikastrassbrgr @BethaniCameron @BruceKraus @DebGrosspgh @danielgilman

Legislation includes Extreme Risk Protection Orders. Like PFAs/Domestic Violence laws, Pittsburgh’s proposal would allow family members or law enforcement the ability to go to court, through due process, to temporarily remove weapons from those who will hurt themselves or others

I am NOT a burden. People like me are NOT burdens. We are beautiful and worthy of love. We are beautiful because of, not despite, being Autistic/disabled - because those are integral to our being.

(4) Come to Disability day of Mourning on March 1st at 7 PM in William Pitt Union, room 450, to hear about how these tragedies happen far to often, why they happen, more of what you can do, and ultimately to memorialize those who were not so lucky to survive.

Action steps:(1) correct ppl who excuse parent behavior like this (often on account of the kid being disabled) (2) support orgs run by and for autistic people like @autselfadvocacy & locally, @autisticpgh (3) DON’T support Autism speaks (google why autistic ppl don’t like them)

What are we as a society doing to address the hate that children & adults like me face on a daily basis? How much longer do I have to live in a world where people would rather have a dead child than a child like me? #actuallyautistic

Pitt SDA reposted

All kids have accidents, including neurotypical children. There is NO excuse to abuse any child like this. But we also have to recognize that Autistic children & adults are 2-2.5 times more likely (7x more likely if they have an intellectual disability) to experience abuse.
