@SPACEumd

We're an undergraduate research team at @UofMaryland. Our mission: to make EVAs more efficient by improving spacesuit joints.

We are excited to announce that we have been nominated for the James M. Wallace Outstanding Gemstone Thesis Award and the Outstanding Gemstone Team Presentation Award! Join us to hear the results Tuesday, May 21 at 7 PM in the UMD Memorial Chapel.

NASA's limited supply of aging EMU suits & the difficulty associated with operating a poorly fitting EMU recently cancelled the first all-women spacewalk in history. 3D printed hard suits like ours are easier to make & operate, allowing productive EVAs for all sizes and genders.

Our team members were just 6 years old when the Opportunity rover launched for the Red Planet. Congrats to the @NASAJPL team at the end of your incredible mission. We'll miss you, Oppy!

To the robot who turned 90 days into 15 years of exploration: You were, and are, the Opportunity of a lifetime. Rest well, rover. Your mission is complete. (2004-2019) mars.nasa.gov #ThanksOppy

Today we completed our final fit check before manufacturing our final prototype! The low-precision process we use for fit checks doesn't allow us to print the precise connections between suit parts, so we hold the suit together with an engineer's favorite adhesive - duct tape!

Welcome to Mars, @NASAInSight! We'll come visit real soon.

I feel you, #Mars – and soon I’ll know your heart. With this safe landing, I’m here. I’m home. #MarsLanding mars.nasa.gov/InSight

NASA is flying a combined 3D printer and filament recycler to the ISS this Thursday, demonstrating technology that will help make our designs possible on deep space missions. Read more: go.nasa.gov/2FltNBj

We're thinking of Neil Armstrong and @TheRealBuzz today on the 49th anniversary of their moon landing. Our research is helping to prepare for a long duration return to the moon and beyond!

Today was a busy day of work for the team as we evaluated a new 3D printed bearing in the glove box and began construction of our robotic test rig. We are continually working towards a full prototype that we hope to debut next fall!
