It’s been just over 2 months since we launched the ‘Blueprint for Disaster Management RD&D Supporting the SDGs’ #SDGblueprint18 @SSFuture18. We are very proud of this framework and we hope you will work with us to implement these learnings in future 🌏👉 bit.ly/SDGblueprint
#SDGblueprint18 9⃣: The path to a sustainable and resilient future is paved by the choices we make today, and understanding the interactions between the #SDGs and #DisasterManagement will help us make better decisions along the way. Read more at 👉 bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 8⃣: For research to better support decision-makers in government and industry we must increasingly focus on enabling platforms, such as the Intelligent Decision Support System, the Urban Risk Map, and the NDC-SDG Connections Tool. Read @ bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 7⃣: Our blueprint connects the key elements of disaster resilience with the #SendaiFramework priorities for action – it is important that academia and industry work towards these priorities as well as government. Read more here 👉 bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 6⃣·5⃣: CDMPS found 94 #SDG targets in direct correlation with research priority area 5 (RPA5) – demonstrating how sustainable development policy plays an important role in disaster mitigation, management and resilience. Read about RPA5 @ bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 6⃣·4⃣: CDMPS found 93 #SDG targets in direct correlation with research priority area 4 (RPA4) – this demonstrates that building institutional and community resilience helps society to survive and thrive during disaster. Read about RPA4 @ bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 6⃣·3⃣: CDMPS found 49 #SDG targets in direct correlation with research priority area 3 (RPA3) – showing how improving infrastructure system performance in disasters contributes to long-term resilience in the recovery process. Read more 👉 bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 6⃣·2⃣: CDMPS found 41 #SDG targets in direct correlation with research priority area 2 (RPA2) – showing how emerging technologies and their applications can help both sustainable development and disaster resilience. Read more about RPA2 @ bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
Measuring #SDGs progress is a must, but: -we can't oversimplify the #complexity and diversity of challenges in different societies -#datagaps are too vast to rank achievements -#change (institutional and cultural) is a lengthy process -“scaling solutions everywhere” may not work
Report card on the world: see which countries are ahead and which behind on the #GlobalGoals. Important talk! @TEDTalks ted.com/talks/michael_…
#SDGblueprint18 6⃣·1⃣: CDMPS found 36 #SDG targets in direct correlation with research priority area 1 (RPA1) – showing how disaster management research can support both sustainable development and disaster preparedness and resilience. Read more here 👉 bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 6⃣: CDMPS has five major research priority areas (RPAs), which are each connected to different #SDGs – by understanding these interlinkages we can ensure our research supports specific sustainable development goal targets. Read more: bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 5⃣: The relationship between the #SDGs and #disastermanagement goes two directions: disasters can create serious setbacks to sustainable development, but achieving the #SDGs can also significantly strengthen disaster resilience 👉 bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 4⃣: CDMPS is looking to answer the question “how can we translate our research into consistent and executable strategies that overcome disaster risks and sustainable development challenges cohesively?” Find out about our approach at 👉 bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
#SDGblueprint18 3⃣: The escalation of disaster-related impact in recent decades highlights the need for researchers and decision makers to apply transformative measures that identify the root cause of extreme events and focus on sustainable development 👉 bit.ly/SDGblueprint
"When we are not adequately prepared, we take one step forward by investing in new infrastructure or development projects for our cities and towns and two steps back when disaster strikes." Read our latest article in #Pursuit 👉 pursuit.unimelb.edu.au/articles/prepa… @engunimelb @uommedia
“Investment in resilience isn’t just about avoiding losses and keeping bad things from happening, it’s about catalyzing growth and opportunity,” said Marc Forni, @WorldBank #resilientcities #cityresilience #WorldCitiesDay

#SDGblueprint18 2⃣: CDMPS looked at #SDG interactions for disaster management-related research at 2 levels: general connections with each of the 17 #SDGs and links between each of our research priority areas and particular #SDG targets. Read more here: bit.ly/SDGblueprint.
When disasters displace people, 📒 #land records and 🛰️ #geospatial data are key to protect property rights and build 💪 #resilience. Here's why: wrld.bg/ziid30mmmBy #UNWGIC #drm
#SDGblueprint18 1⃣: CDMPS’ blueprint aims to strengthen knowledge of the relationship between disaster management and the #SDGs. As well as, ensure that future disaster-related research makes an impact towards global sustainable development 🌏👉 bit.ly/SDGblueprint
