If you go down to the woods today…..you’ll see Ben and Alex climbing trees 🌳! Not just for the fun of it (although we can imagine swinging in the trees quite free and fresh on a day like today!) but instead installing some tawny owl boxes 🦉.
Curious calves! 🐄🐄🐄 Cows and calves are naturally inquisitive and curious because of their acute senses and social nature! Staying calm but alert means we can continue to survey safely!
Reptile surveys! 🦎 Artificial refuges are placed on site and provide heat sources for reptiles which are ectotherms! 🐍☀️ The refuges are then checked by qualified and experienced ecologists in suitable weather conditions in the period from March - October.
Our Senior Arboriculturist has been keeping an eye on this gnarly English oak, with European hornets in residence. The left was 3 weeks ago, and right is how it looks now!

Caught napping on the job at a project site in Cheddar yesterday 💤. Did you know that dormice are barely seen as they spend most of their time snoozing. They are even known to snore! 😴
We really are incredibly lucky to work in some beautiful places with an abundance of different species and habitats, like ecologists Alex and Pelham this week, surveying along this heavenly track on the #Somersetlevels looking for signs of Water Vole, Otter and Mink 🦋🦂🦦🌿
