The LDS Church taught me to prize my integrity—so I did. And discovered their giant lack of it. Talk about one hell of a cognitive dissonance. And yet Mormons will keep assuming my anger, grief, sadness, and pain is due to my own sin and apostasy.
Harrison Butker is the real-life Gaston. No room for anyone else in that ego.
I wish LDS people would understand that a person simply telling their story, without vitriol or rudeness, isn’t “bashing the church.” They want us to do the “respectful” thing & go away quietly. Anything else is an attack, even if it’s a song about a mom’s love for her gay son.
You know, talks about integrity just don't hit very hard when the organization that delivers it recently argued in court that it's perfectly okay for them to know child abuse is going on and then do nothing to protect that child or even report the abuser.
One of the best things about being an exmo mom is never again feeling pressured to talk to my kids about the "sin of masturbation." Privacy, consent, safe sex, medical care, and internet safety, of course. But their little factories are their own damn business.
If someone starts washing their clothes and cleaning their room after months or years of not doing it, that doesn't mean they finally cared enough to get their shit together– It probably means they got help and are now ABLE to get their shit together.
Wendy Nelson says that worldly sex is carnal & sensual. The purer you are, the better the marital intimacy. Yet I find carnal, sensual, communicative, uninhibited sex an incredible intimacy builder! But I couldn’t free that part of me until I began deconstructing purity culture.
Exmo pleasure unlocked: the satisfaction of descaling a coffeemaker. 😌☕️
I suddenly have the obsessive desire to build one of those little light-up book nook kits that make it look like there’s a secret world inside your bookshelf. I wonder if the little pieces are as frustrating as they appear. Translation: would I finish it or defenestrate it
When I was LDS, I worried that if I left the church, I’d lose the “light in my eyes.” After all, I’d noticed a countenance shift in some who’d left. Turns out it’s perfectly normal to look a bit haunted after discovering the church you dedicated your entire life to was a lie. 🫠
I love how a straight yt dude will share “why he stays” and how he doesn’t want to offend anyone who left. But he just can’t keep from saying, “People aren’t as happy when they leave God.” I mean, obvs he knows what it’s like to undergo a religious deconstruction, right? 🙃🫠
Just thinking about the time when I got called into the bishop’s office and yelled at for emailing SLC a copyright question bc the Handbook offered that option for members to ask questions the section didn’t cover. But sure, Oaks, 16yos can freely write to you about pronouns 🙄
My parents were converts, and I used to feel bad when other kids bragged about their extensive pioneer lineage. So I started one-upping them by telling them I was related to the Noah from Noah’s ark. They were quite impressed. 😏
Sometimes the only thing that sounds good is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
TEN PERCENT of our income should have gone to pay our medical bills and home repairs. Instead it bailed out an insurance company and built a mall. You can’t get a temple recommend if you don’t pay. No recommend, no exaltation. @Ch_JesusChrist practices spiritual extortion.
🎶 I believe in being honest, I believe in being true. That honesty will start with me in all I say and all I do. Unless I hate the SEC Then Jesus loves shell companies And Nielsen shouldn’t shine a light To keep the brethren glowing bright.🎶 #revisedPrimarysong
